Peter Vack, Star of “I Just Want My Pants Back”, Calls Jersey Shore “A Great Show”

Now is that something a real hipster would say?

Does Peter Vack really like Jersey Shore? And what does he mean “great”? Great as in classic television? Great as in fun to watch ironically?

When the cast of MTV’s scripted hipster comedy, “I Just Want My Pants Back,” met at Public Assembly in Brooklyn, Peter Vack was quoted as saying ”it’s amazing lead-in … ‘Jersey Shore’ is a great show.”

Fair enough. For promotional punch, it’s hard to beat a Jersey Shore lead-in. Also, you’d wanna say something nice, since apparently the cast of Jersey Shore were hanging out at Public Assembly, too.

But “Jersey Shore” and “Pants Back” are totally different, right? Jersey Shore is a reality show about guidos, and Pants Back is a scripted show about hipsters. But the common thread is that each portrays a group of friends navigating their love lives.

But is Peter Vack a real hipster? When put on the spot recently, Vack said,Me? I think yes. Growing up in New York, hanging out in Brooklyn, wearing tight pants — I don’t wear that tight of pants, but I certainly don’t wear baggy jeans — I think, yes, I am a hipster. For the audition, I didn’t have to play anything up. I just was who I am.”

You have to give him a little room. When the mic’s in your face, the lights are on, and DJ Pauly D himself is fist-pumping right in front of you, “‘Jersey Shore’ is a great show” is just one of those things that might just slip out, reflexively, while you’re searching your brain for a quick soundbite.
