This is Brian O’Mara a few years ago when he played football for Garden City High school. Brian O’Mara was 22 this past Saturday when he was killed by a Brooklyn-bound subway train. According to the Daily News, he was out with friend prior to the tragedy.
Patch has exclusive interviews with Garden City residents who knew Brian O’Mara. One distraught resident said he was “adored” in the community. He was close to his family and had a network of close friends who “regarded him as a brother … He always had a positive attitude, a sharp intellect and an affectionate demeanor. Even his close friends’ parents and siblings thought of him as family.”
The MTA said that Brian O’Mara was hit around 8 am when he was walking by the tunnel on the L line (near the stop on Third Ave.). It was a particularly deadly weekend, with 4 deaths reported in or around subway stations (three were hit by trains, a fourth is thought to have fallen down a flight of stairs).
O’Mara graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and according to his Linkedin profile had a job at a company called Corporate Insight.
Thursday and Friday, there will be a wake for Brian at Park Funeral Chapels in Garden City Park. The funeral is Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church.
