NBC New York reports that a 57-year-old Brooklyn woman, originally from Tobago, was keeping 13 adult pit bulls in her basement and backyard, along with 5 puppies in her house, according to the ASPCA.
The woman was “well-intentioned” but was getting overwhelmed, an ASPCA spokesperson said, and now she is going to give up 5 pit bulls as part of an arrangement she has with the organization (last week, ASPCA agents were looking into a potential animal hoarding case).
Back home, the Tobagonian woman had 27 dogs that were mainly wild game hunters; difference is, that was on 72 acres of land. In Brooklyn, she bought her first dog in 2003–apparently a dogfighting victim; then she found another pit bull stray. And so it went. The good news is, the ASPCA determined she was treating them very well – as if they were her children.
