Woman Found Stabbed to Death at 487 St. Marks in Crown Heights (UPDATED)

Amy Sara Clark (Prospect Heights Patch) just took this picture of a police officer standing guard outside 487 St. Marks Ave. in Crown Heights, where a woman was just found stabbed to death today. The death is being ruled a homicide.

Patch is reporting that the 43-year-old woman was found dead around 11 am, and had stab wounds on both her head and body. The police investigation is ongoing and the victim’s name is being withheld pending investigation. Detectives were “canvassing nearby apartments for witnesses” while neighbors gathered outside.

At 515 St. Marks Avenue, just down the block, a janitor named John told patch he had found blood on the doorknob and inside around 8 am: “When I got here somebody said ‘look at this blood’ … there were blood drops going up to the second floor,” he told Patch.

“She was a sweetheart,” Frieda Luckett, 48, told DNAinfo. “If you needed a couple of dollars and she had it, she’d give it.”

DNAinfo also quoted a neighbor, Vanetta Washington, 46: “She was nice, no matter what … She was a good person, good at heart.”

Jack Krohn notes that the address of the stabbing, 487 St. Marks Avenue, is a psychiatric/MICA residence operated by Institute for Community Living. “If the murder involved their clients, Stella Pappas and Pamela Tindall-O’Brien are going have a rough week of submitting death reports to OMH,” says whynot_31. “A sad and tedious part of the job. It absolutely sucks.”
