  • This is the city shelter, they don't run credit checks and are practically giving animals away. Cats are $25, adopt one and get one free.

Dogs from 5 months to 4 years- $65.00

Dogs 5 years and older- $25.00

The Pets on Death Row and Urgent Part 2 facebook pages I posted above are groups trying to help cats and dogs that are going to be euthanized.

Are you looking for a cat or dog? I would be more than willing to help you find one if you're interested in adopting.

  • These dogs are going to be euthanized in the morning, they need a foster or adopter so a rescue can save them.

  • Caseopele, thank you for your reply. This is very good. A lot of people who want to adopt get turned down or turned off by the ridiculous paperwork and screenings. Unfortunately I have 2 pitbulls and cannot take on any more but I know A LOT of people who want to adopt pets or even just have them so I will forward this on. Sorry I cant get a grip on the quote feature on this site it is wierd.

  • The New York Center for Animal Care and Control is required to accept all animals offered for surrender. As a consequence, many of the animals that are surrendered here are not adopted but are put to death. This is a sad fact of life. New York, like most other major cities around the world, has a surplus of companion animals. You can help by ensuring that your pets are sterilized before they are sexually mature so that they cannot add to the oversupply problem (my male cat was castrated at 11 weeks, my female was spayed at 20 weeks, nine years ago in a different country). When you are looking to bring an animal into your life remember that it is a long term commitment - up to twenty years. If you cannot make that commitment, consider adopting a senior animal, or fostering. NYCACC also needs money and volunteers.

NYCACC screens all potential adopters. They want to ensure that the animal they are handing over won't be returned (poorly socialized animals are not adopted) so they want to see that your landlord/coop/condo allows pets, or you live in a house that you own. They also want to ensure as best they can that you will be a responsible pet owner. If you are moving, make sure that you tell your broker that you want accommodation that accepts pets. If you are on a condo or coop board, make sure your condo or coop allows pets, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has published a model code for keeping animals in multiple family dwellings, you can incorporate this into your house rules.

    Be a responsible pet owner.

  • They also need supplies! Blankets, sheets, towels, pet food, pet toys, anything animal related, they will take!

A few weeks ago I brought 5 garbage bags full of blankets and whatnot. They were VERY grateful!

So- if anyone has anything they'd like to donate- I'm willing to pick up and bring it to the Brooklyn shelter. It's not an easy place to get to via public transit and I have a car, so...PM me to set something up.

  • Just do NOT give them any money, the animals will not benefit from your donation. The AC&C just recently used a dog's face for a fundraiser then euthanized that same dog. You can help by adopting, fostering, or donating to the New Hope rescue groups that pull animals from AC&C. Check out Urgent Part 2 or Pets on Death Row on Facebook for more info.

Thanks for bringing the animals blankets!
