UN states that world population reaches 7 Billion today

...Oct 31, 2011.

The world population has gone up by 350%, from 2 billion people to 7 billion people, in just 84 years!

The 7 billion mark is a huge spike from less than a century ago. In 1927, the global population was 2 billion. It was only 13 years ago that the population was at 6 billion, the United Nations says.Changing demographics are quickly reshaping the world in numerous ways.People under the age of 25 make up 43% of the world's population, the United Nations says.About half of the world's population lives in cities. Within about 35 years, two-thirds will, it says.

Total population is still climbing, but the rate of growth peaked in the 1960s at about 2 percent. It has steadily declined since then, although it remains well above replacement level in places like sub-Saharan Africa, where it still tops 2 percent.

  • I have a temporary solution:

  • After we follow Motorhead's advice and eat the rich, will the remaining people fund population control methods and provide education that advances the quality of life for women and girls, and thus us all?

Stabilizing fertility rates – the average number of children born to a woman in her lifetime – is key to managing population growth. The starting point: more education for girls. That can start a "virtuous cycle" of delayed marriage and childbearing, which leads to fewer children and more investment in the children that are born, says Judith Bruce, a senior associate and policy analyst at the Population Council.

  • The earth will purge itself. In between the taxing of resources, war over said resources, diseases yet to be unlocked and global warming, expect human & non-human calamity on a massive scale within twenty to forty years.

  • Based on some of the media I've consumed, the wars will be increasingly over POTABLE WATER as opposed to oil, religion, etc.

Said purging may come as a the result of the classic waterborne diseases....

  • where are all the calls to reduce excessive consumption?

The first steps are to decide on how many people the world should have, and what standard of living they should be maintained at.

Then, let's tell people they can not have children because the world is at the capacity we established.

Then, let's decide how much people get to consume. First items under consideration:

    a. Is a personal indoor swimming pool of 60' too large, or must the wealthy settle for 40'?

    b. Can they have their own Gulfstream 6, or will they be required to use NetJets?

BTW, how will such rules and expectations be enforced?

  • You have it backwards. FIRST we look at consumption, THEN we start telling (usually poor, usually nonwhite) people they can't have as many kids.

    Good luck with either approach.

Meanwhile, I'm glad I live somewhere with lots of potable water, and only have about 40 years to go.

  • I'll take potent potables for $500, Alex.

But only if I get a LOT of them.

  • Jeffrey-

Potent Potables may help us all get thru the next 40 years or so. However, clean water will remain essential. You may be interested in regular doses of antibiotics. A home kit in which you can distill or boil water may also help.

    Sincerely,

    Alex Trebeck
