I wonder if any of you can tell me if the following places in Bay Ridge have "changed" or still exist. If they have changed, what is there now:

Ovington Bowling Alleys-Ovington Ave above 5th
Bay Ridge Masonic Temple-Bay Ridge Ave (69th St)
Alpine Theater-5th Ave in the 60s or 70's
Hamilton House Restaurant-5th/4thAve
KofC and Masonic Club 4th Ave
Waldeck Funeral Home-4th Ave
I know that the 5th Ave Trolley was replaced by a bus. Is it still running? What about the 3rd Ave Bus...

The area of Bay Ridge around 69th Street (and above 4th Avenue) is heavily Muslim so much (but not everything) has changed.
Ovington Bowling Alley - gone
Masonic Temple - gone
Alpine - still there but a multi-plex
Hamilton House - gone for many years
K of C - where on 4th Avenue?
Waldeck - merged and is now on 12th Ave and 65th street
I think the 3rd Ave & 5th Ave buses have merged onto 4th????

BTW - if you would like to see the neighborhood as it is now, you should access vpike.com (virtual turnpike). This is a bit better than google earth (do not have to join or install anything).
Once you have accessed, just type in an address (for example, the Alpine Theater address is 6817 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11220 - you can copy and paste into the address search) and you will be able to toggle thru various views - - up 5th Avenue, down 69th Street, etc.

I am not sure how often the photos are updated but they appear to be fairly current.

Thanks for the info Domino. I spent a lot of time in that area many years ago. Was raised on 12th Street between 5th & 6th Aves but belonged to and was quite active in Theodore Roosevelt Chapter Order Of DeMolay which met the the BR Masonic Temple.

By the way, the K of C was across the street from Waldecks. There was the Bay Ridge Masonic Club, not temple, also across from the KofC and the two fraternal groups got along very well. In fact the Grand Knight had a guest membership card to the BR Masonic club and the president of the Masonic Club had a guest membership card for the K of C.
