A narrow ice-cream parlor on Third Ave. is marking its 115th birthday in March ...

While Anopoli Ice Cream Parlor & Family Restaurant is the latest name on the front sign, at least three other clans have managed the 65-seat eatery – all snubbing modernity.

“It’s old Brooklyn. It doesn’t feel like old Brooklyn: This is old Brooklyn,” said Manny.

The Saviolakis team toil behind the same 10-foot lunch counter that appears in black and white 1920s photos that line the shop’s 12-foot high wooden candy display case.

Whatever happened to all those great ice cream parlors and malt shops that we used to have in the old days?

I remember growing up on the corner of Sheffield & Livonia Ave in East New York and we had a bunch of them all near each other. A thick malt, a 7-Up & ice cream float, root beer, etc, were all tasty and very affordable. Kids could always safely hang out in them after school and have a good time. Be nice if society had more such affordable & pleasant places for people today.

It is very nice to see that at least a few such shops are still around. Hopefully, they will last for many more decades!
