I would NEVER leave her tied up outside. I would like to bring her in with me, but you aren't supposed to.
I mean, I wouldn't take my dog 'grocery shopping" with me but it would be a nice option, to be able to do so
for that quick container of milk or loaf of bread--my dog is calm and well behaved, honestly she
would be less trouble than some children I've encountered, running amok. As far as I know, dogs are not allowed inside grocery stores.Me & Charley Booger Brown -
I'm pretty sure they won't let you bring the dog in unless it's a service dog. I feel bad for the dogs tied up outside a supermarket. They often seem nervous and anxious waiting for their person. I've never understood why someone needs to take their dog to the supermarket. Seems selfish as I imagine the dog would be happier alone on the couch at home then alone tied up on the street.
But I have no doubt someone who does this will lash out at me and insist they HAVE to do this for some reason.

I would never leave my dog tied up anywhere on his own ever. I get so pissed off seeing other people doing this to their poor dogs. Not only is this stressful for the dog but there are plenty of people who would take the dog especially if the dog is small.
I wish there was a law against leaving dogs alone like that. Would someone leave their kid tied up to the pole? Or even leave their kid outside the store by their self?I leave my dog home when I do my grocery shopping.
-
I used to tie my dog up while grocery shopping. After a half-dozen tries, though, it became apparent that no one was going to take her, so I just leave her at home now.
...not that there's anything wrong with that. -
I feel sorry for the dogs tied up. And I dislike it when people take their dogs into places of business especially restaurants. So lose, lose. Leave them home.

I hear about people taking pets for the future reward money.
...and have seen that fear mongering Nancy Grace show on CNN re: people abducting and doing bad things to children.
No offense to Stacey and WhyFi, but at some point, it might come down to the attractiveness of the pet and kids.
For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor. -
I used to live above a bagel shop. Nothing worse than being woken up at 8am on a Saturday by someone's barking dog tied to the meter under your window. Please don't do this, people. It was so frustrating...
Even if your dog isn't a barker, dogs are stolen all the time in just seconds. Is the convenience of getting a coffee while walking your dog worth the chance that someone could make off with your (hopefully) beloved pet?

That caption should read "No one admits to sex with Nancy Grace" What a busy screen that is. They'll do anything to distract viewers from her face. Good thinking.

Outside Trader Joe on Court St my friend and I were eating cookies we'd just bought there. We kept an eye on a guy who was suspiciously watching an adorable little dog tied up by the entrance. The guy kept walking around the corner and slinking back again every few minutes. Seemed like he was waiting for us to leave so he could take the dog. When the guy saw the owner come out he flat left. We explained everything to the owner, and she will not be leaving her little darling alone out there again.

bring my dog with me everywhere I go. Kind of a fat Paris Hilton thing. If and when I tie my dog up to get an on the way to the park coffee my dog doesn't bark..nor does he need the leash. he will not leave the place where I left him . He is super friendly w other dogs.people, kids, old ladies and thugs. If anyone attempts to "help" him..by mistaking him for abandoned or abused that person will meet with an a very unfortunate outcome.
Most places adopt MTA rules and if the animal is bagged or carried it is of no consequence to other patrons..other than personal preference. My dog is as clean or cleaner than 80% of area residents...
This post can easily be tied in to a horrendous tragedy where a gentleman and sociopath exchanged words of dogs and their placement. It resulted in a beloved and valued person murdered.
If you want to berate me for behavior unbecoming..fine wait next to my dog until I return. Touch him or any variation is a step too far. If I find you a troll I will ask that you watch the dog while I go in for a pack of cigars that I will smoke publicly and blow in your face

Btw, I'm enjoying picturing people eating cookies and eyeballing a guy who is eyeballing a dog.

touch him,pet him,no problem. Weave some cash on his collar .thank you. No social statements using my dog..don't like dogs, the owners.or their behavoir..we can work it out don't touch my hound as part of a social agenda
-
I would never touch someone's hound as part of a social agenda. To be honest, I'm not sure what that means or how I would do it ... and sounds a little perverted anyway.
I don't even have a problem with dogs being tied up in general, I just feel bad for the dog when they look unhappy or if it's rainy or cold and they're shivering. But some dogs are just fine with it and enjoy the people watching.
One time I saw a sad, cold dog shivering outside a wine shop. It was the only time I really considered yelling at someone about this. But when she came out to her dog, the dog was happy and I didn't have the heart to yell at her. Also, it would probably only upset the dog to see a stranger yell at their person - which isn't doing the pooch any favors.

I'm pretty sure that there is a health department rule about dogs and cats in food service stores (which is why bodegas are constantly fined for keeping cats). There are a lot of people out there stealing dogs: for the reward they hope will come, for sale to other pet owners, for sale to animal labs. I would not tie my dog up outside a store in NYC - used to do it in the rural town I grew up in, but NYC is different.
Bodegas are in an impossible situation, they keep cats to keep away the rats and mice, but get fined for keeping the cat. If they don't keep a cat they get fined because it is otherwise impossible to keep away the rats and mice so get fined for having evidence of vermin. Personally, I'd rather they keep the cats.

Or you get sick fucks who just enjoy hurting animals. Like the person who kicked a small dog tied up outside a store in the face and broke it's jaw. This was in Brooklyn Heights. Someone else just untied a dog and let it go, don't know what happened to the dog. If you love your dog at all, don't leave it tied up outside a store. Actually, if you're a decent human being at all, don't tie your dog up outside a store.
Go do something useful. -
Would never, could never leave my dog tied up outside while I went for a coffee, shopping, eat, whatever. I'm just not that naive or trusting. And besides, my dog is a lazy pug who would not stand for being left tied up in the cold or heat of the summer - and would bark at everyone.
Really, there are sick, scum of the earth types that will snatch (especially toy breads) or harm your dog for what. Then how do you live with yourself after that; justify that coffee. I know I'm being overly dramatic but I strongly advise against it.
-
I never leave the pooch alone outside. If I can bring him into a store, I incorporate the store on my walk route. If not, he stays home.
I agree with what everyone has said about the stressed dogs, as well as about people who steal cute little dogs (my dog is cute and little, but would be WAY more trouble than a thief bargained for).
I have also heard of people stealing dogs to use as bait for fight training. Also, does anyone remember that lady in the neighborhood who was "rescuing" people's pets? There was even an article in the Times a few years ago. She would take tied up animals or cats that clearly belonged to people, "rescue" them, and then try to adopt them out. Anyone remember this?

A 38-year-old female was picking up take-out on Court Street near 4th Place on March 16 at 10:48 p.m. when she saw a man attempting to take the harness off her $2,000 dog, which was tied to a post outside the restaurant, cops said. The thief, Kendale Golston, 31, was arrested and charged with grand larceny. The type of dog is not known at this time. People should never leave their dogs outside, not if they love them. A neighbor's dog was stolen as he made a run into the corner deli. His dog was docile and kind, which meant it went with the stranger without even barking. So sad. He was lucky and found the dog after posting a million reward posters. Whoever had taken the dog had apparently sold it for money to another family. Don't let that happen to your pup!
Another cautionary tale: I recently saw a dog tied up outside the Brooklyn Flea. The dog, for whatever reason, kept sitting in the STREET, not on the curb, under the wheels of a car. So dangerous! And the owners, I'm sure, were completely oblivious. Why take your dog out if you're not going to enjoy a walk with him, and instead peruse crappy items inside a flea market? So selfish and careless of the owners. I just hope that dog is okay and wasn't crushed.
Don't take a good dog for granted!
-
I have lived in this area a long, long time., DOGS GET STOLEN.
-
Your dog can also get mugged. Remember that woman who tied her dog up outside in Park Slope a couple years ago? Someone stole the coat right off the dog.
