i can't find a freakin' carpenter anywhere to do something cuz it's too small a job...thanks if anyone knows where one is nearby

There is Brownstoner, for reasonably reliable carpenters.

....there is the labor gigs section of Craigslist, for very basic work.

For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.
