Can anyone recommend a reliable contractor for creating a rooftop deck? Has anyone else done this who can offer tips? Thanks!

I have a very good recommendation: Leo Rivera - a local carpenter who did a phenomenal job on my deck. (347) 219-0918

      Subject: roofdeck costs?

Someday, we hope to have someone build us a bare-bones roofdeck, too. For now, though, we're still looking for our perfect place to buy, hopefully a place with roof rights. I understand there's a lot of room for variation, but where do decks tend to start, pricewise? Thanks!

I'd recommend Steve at Urban Exteriors - he actually did a large built-in bookshelf for us, not a deck, but I'd hire him for a deck job in a minute (decks are his specialty). He's got a great attention to detail and is a nice guy, to boot. Check out his photos online...

I have actually seen a few decks that his company has done (2 rear and 1 rooftop) and they have all been really nicely done with fine attention paid to the little details. We hope to put a deck in our yard this summer and we will definately be using his company.

Someone sent me a link to this forum...said I was being recommended. I appreciate the kind words.

      kkbergen,

Sorry that I didn't take on your project. You caught me at a bad time. I had finished a series of parlour floor decks...all in the sun, and I was looking to get in the shade. It was a hot summer, and I was dreaming of shady backyards...not rooftops. Glad you got a great deck.

I don't know if Steve is doing decks any more, but he also referred us to Leo Rivera, and we had a terrific experience with him.

Leo was honest, prompt, courteous, communicative, and scrupulous about staying within our budget and schedule. When an item from the original estimate turned out to be more expensive than estimated, he called immediately with a solution that kept to the original budget and actually looked better and was a better choice for our space.

I gather Leo does other carpentry jobs as well -- would definitely work with him again.
