Subject: What's up with Ace Liquors?

The place on Atlanta and Nevins has pretty much been out of stock for the last couple of years now. Anyone know what the deal is with that place? At first I thought they were closing down but they're still open despite having hardly any inventory.

I don't know what the deal is but they appear to be totally closed for the past few weeks. I live on that block and pass the store regularly when walking the dog late afternoon/early evening. I think it's probably been closed since the beginning of February. Too bad, since a decent liquor store there would probably do well.

Perhaps the rabid raccoon has something to do with it.

While their selection was never big, they did carry a lot of the cheaper wines that I like to drink and overall they were cheaper than the liquor store on Smith st near Pacific..

      Oh well.

That place at Smith near Pacific is a total ripoff. If you're in the area, you might try the liquor store on 4th Avenue near Dean. It's a bullet-proof glass place but it's cheaper than Smith Street and has a better selection than Ace did. Of course, the best place (for price and selection) is Sterling Grapes & Grains across from Key Food on 5th.

I agree, the smith street shop is a complete ripoff, a pint of Jack for 18 bucks!. It seems ridiculous that shop is so expensive yet the Heights Chateu a few blocks away and much more upscale looking is in fact cheaper.

They were closing and just waiting to sell out the stock. According to the uninformative girl who worked there, she says "maybe" it's going to be another liquor store and didn't know why it was closing. I asked her about the store on two occasions and she was surprisingly clueless. My guess is an old timer got bought out.

Walked by there today with the dog and now there's a "For Rent" sign in the window. I guess that's the end of Ace Liquors.

For rent sign is down and the inside has been gutted. Wonder what's to come...
