We're thinking of checking it out either Friday or Saturday, depending on work schedules and what the wait's like....walked past last night about 8 and they were packed.

I went last night. I had a fantastic rye & kumquat cocktail (seriously fantastic). obviously their much touted morels and ramps dish ... not on the menu. I had the sweetbreads. I don't think they were trimmed properly - most crispy sweetbread dishes I've had are, obvi, crispy on the outside and almost buttery on the inside. I'm not sure if this was a trimming issue or a cooking time issue: mine were crispy on the outside and almost like gristle on the inside. a wee bit gross. I do know others had them that same night and enjoyed them. the couple sitting next to me was not impressed, though. oh well. I did love the sauce and the greens - delish. I will give them another chance but may wait a few weeks and go for something else.like a smoked meat with an earthy youth overnote

Hmmm.....the Boyfriend is all excited for sweetbreads; if we get to go this weekend, I'll be sure to post about them. Thanks for the cocktail tip as well - it sounds delish!

oh, and they were packed! it's a little loud and wild - I forget what kind of impact dailycandy has on restaurant attendance. but again, the flavors were spot-on for the food, I just didn't like the texture of what I got. the booze was great. and boozy.like a smoked meat with an earthy youth overnote

Hoorah for booziness!

went last night for the first time. absolutely amazing experience, i must say. it got off to a really nice start when we realized that Deborah, the owner, was someone my wife and I had taken one too many kickboxing classes with in the past. everyone was incredibly gracious. the food? superb. the diver scallops were absolutely full of flavor and reached heights that i think only Rose Water and Applewood do in the neighborhood. i had the burger, which i think may be superior to the ones at Alchemy, Beast, and Bonnie's as the best in the hood and came with some serious herb fries. my wife had the brook trout, which i think had some hazelnuts and oranges on top, which was very interesting. drinks were great. i never got around to going to Sorrel so, to me, this space was still Peralta Grocery, where we bought one too many gallons of milk at 1:00 AM when we lived on that block. having an amazing meal in that same physical space, completely transformed, was something else. James is awesome. Run there, but don't tell too many friends. I'd like to be able to get a table relatively easily still.

i wanted to go in and get a drink while i waited for my bf to get off the train. it was about 3 minutes before 7pm and they "were still setting up" and asked me to leave. for a new addition to the neighborhood, i thought they at least could've been friendlier and told me i could wait in that window bay, even if they didn't want to crack a beer for me for a whole five minutes.
