Based on Armchair's post above for a friend (and with the holidays coming), now seems a good time to post this info. Unfortunately/fortunately, I discovered a lot of resources when my cat was dying last year. That said, I keep this handy for my two furballs. I used the Brooklyn Emergency Vet service (when there was one on Bay Ridge Ave - that location has closed, but there's one close to most of us on Warren St) and was very happy with them. Unfortunately, by that time, it was too late for my girl, but the vets were knowledgeable and caring and they had decent financing/payment options. I know many people like the AMC on E. 62nd in Manhattan, but it can also be crowded and you may have to wait a long time. I have several friends who have had good experiences at the Fifth Ave Vet Specialists (in Manhattan - I would NEVER take my cats back to Fifth Ave. Cat Clinic in Brooklyn). Plus, this site also lists Pet Taxi services and Poison Control Numbers. Keep it handy and hope you never need it! http://www.fidobrooklyn.org/rescue/emergency.html

Great info Flexi but I just want to add that the Animal Clinic on 7th Avenue is also a 24 hour hospital. I took my cat there when he had an asthma attack and they were really good for an emergency.

Brooklyn Veterinary Hospital (411 Vanderbilt - Fort Greene) takes emergency cases also. I would not recommend them as an emergency clinic. I have not heard positive feedback regarding their emergency services and veterinarians. Thanks for posting this link! It's always good to have this information handy. You never know when you may have a pet emergency. It's good to be prepared.
