Sean Casey and friends discuss misconceptions about Pit Bulls. For more information on Sean Casey Animal Rescue go to http://www.nyanimalrescue.org or call (718) 436 - 5163.

I recommend 'Animals in Translation' by Dr. Temple Grandin. It goes in to more depth with regard to behavior of animals (pit-bulls; rottweilers included).

Giving personal anecdotes, as the people on this video do, isn't a valid argument against the fact that pit bull type dogs are involved in an extraordinarily high rate of dog bite related bites and fatalities. Just because the people on this video have never been bitten by pit bulls doesn't statistically prove anything. You can find out more information on the following website: http://www.dogbitelaw.com/PAGES/statistics.html "In recent years, the dogs responsible for the bulk of the homicides are pit bulls and Rottweilers: "Studies indicate that pit bull-type dogs were involved in approximately a third of human DBRF (i.e., dog bite related fatalities) reported during the 12-year period from 1981 through1992, and Rottweilers were responsible for about half of human DBRF reported during the 4 years from 1993 through 1996....[T]he data indicate that Rottweilers and pit bull-type dogs accounted for 67% of human DBRF in the United States between 1997 and 1998. It is extremely unlikely that they accounted for anywhere near 60% of dogs in the United States during that same period and, thus, there appears to be a breed-specific problem with fatalities." (Sacks JJ, Sinclair L, Gilchrist J, Golab GC, Lockwood R. Breeds of dogs involved in fatal human attacks in the United States between 1979 and 1998. JAVMA 2000;217:836-840.) The Clifton study of attacks from 1982 through 2006 produced similar results. According to Clifton study, pit bulls, Rottweilers, Presa Canarios and their mixes were responsible for 65% of the canine homicides that occurred during a period of 24 years in the USA. (Clifton, Dog attack deaths and maimings, U.S. & Canada, September 1982 to November 13, 2006; click here to read it.)"

oh no, not the: "pit bulls and rottweilers are not violent dogs, despite thousands of years of breeding to accomplish just that behavior. They are simply the victims of prejustice and irresponsbile dog ownership" thread again. For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.

BAN THE DEED, NOT THE BREED!!! Ban pit bulls, next thing you know all bully breeds go. That includes bulldogs, boxers, anything with a "grin." You know, just in case... I won't have it.Babies aren't meat! They're not even people!

Oh for pete's sake, not this crap again. First of all, what is a pit bull-type dog? I have little faith in the average person's ability to correctly ID a pitbull. http://www.understand-a-bull.com/Findthebull/findpitbull_v3.html http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html http://www.coldsteelpits.com/coldsteelfindthepitbull.htm
Ohio dog warden, Tom Skeldon, who was called as an "expert" on behalf of the City of Toledo in the matter of Toledo v. Tellings testified that there is really no way to tell if a dog is or is not a pit bull, and the determination is made by animal control officers' subjective judgment. Toledo v. Tellings, 2006 WL 513946 (Ohio App. 6 Dist) March 2006
http://www.defendingdog.com/id36.htmlThe biggest flaw in CDC statistics, and certainly the one that causes the most grief, is that the “breed” categorized by the CDC as “pit bull-type dog” does not exist. Nor is “pit bull” a breed recognized by any breed registry. Housed beneath the catch-all designation “pit bull” are at least twenty (and as many as 35) different breeds of dog. Lump twenty breeds of dog together as one breed and you will certainly have what looks like a breed problem as relates to dog bites and dog-bite-related fatalities!
http://www.nopitbullbans.com/?page_id=32 It's ridiculous that a few breeds are getting screwed because people lump a bunch of different breeds together. Do some research of your own people, use your brains. The media is biased, if it bleeds it leads, pitbulls are good for ratings. "PITBULL ATTACK" is so much scarier than "CHIHUAHUA ATTACK". http://www.understand-a-bull.com/Articles/OtherBreedBites/AllDogsBite.htmGo do something useful. -
Can we shut the hell up about pitt bulls already??? Pitt bull this and pit bull that. We discuss these beasts as if we're debating Israel's issues.I blame such comments on beer.

Um, Raw? This is the pets board. Don't get me wrong, I'm just as sick of hearing about this too. Though I suspect for different reasons than yours. Until a new breed takes over as the "most vicious breed ever", pitbulls are going to be talked about. (I'm assuming everyone knows German Shepherds were the vicious breed of the 70's, and Rottweilers were the vicious breed of the 80's.)Go do something useful.

Ever got on the wrong side of a cocker spaniel? Now there's a breed that is vicious AND psychotic.

"CHIHUAHUA ATTACK". Seriously those bastards are vicious and they have little razor blade teeth!

personally, I like the fear of shark attacks. Sharks bite something like 8 people a year, yet people are terrified to go in the water. ...meanwhile, 555555555555 people die driving to the beach. We've already talked about pit bulls. Let's talk about sharks. For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.

You know what, I think more than half (if not most) of the dogs reported for attacks or biting are being mislabeled as Pit Bulls, when in reality they are just mutts or mixes of some sort so the whole argument is irrelevant. You can train any dog to be an asshole - or not train your dog at all and have it turn out to be an asshole. People should spend less time hating specific breeds and more time promoting responsible dog ownership.
-
Dude, sharks are freaking scary! If they don't know what something is, they'll bite it to see if it's food.

whynot_31 » Rockergirl, get with the program.... Ever been bitten by a shark?
I'm so not with the times. I avoid shark bites by exclusively swimming in chainmail bodysuits because thats what the guy on Animal Planet said to do. Does this mean we can officially say its SHARK WEEK on Brooklynian BBs? -

We've already had "pitbulls evil killers vs pitbulls are misunderstood" debate several times now. ...sharks came to mind quickest. I hear they make great pets. Unless you are a seal. My reasons are as pure as can be: I AM SICK OF HEARING ABOUT PIT BULLS. We debate pit bulls ad nauseam. At this point, I support immediate full dog genocide to help move us forward and beyond the pit bull debates. With Easter approaching, isn't anyone worried about innocent bunnies that will be given to 5-year-old humans who will squeeze these rabbits to death?I blame such comments on beer.
© karlthedruid 2007 -
I don't know, every Easter a bunch of jerk-off parents buy rabbits for their kids. And a little while later those poor rabbits are surrendered to shelters to be adopted out (if they're lucky) or neglected and abused (not so lucky). And every damn Easter people are told not to buy rabbits for their kids for Easter. I'm getting a little sick of hearing that but people keep doing it because some people are selfish and can't not indulge every whim. So, I'm going to keep hearing about it until people wise up (which will be never). http://www.rabbit.org/journal/3-7/brandolino-poem.html
Easter Bunny by Mary Brandolino I remember Easter Sunday It was colorful and fun The new life that I'd begun In my new cage. I was just a little thing When they brought me from the store And they put me on the floor In my cage. They would take me out to play Love and pet me all the time Then at day's end I would climb In my cage. But as days and weeks went by I saw less of them it seemed Of their loving touch I dreamed In my cage. In the night outside their house I felt sad and so neglected Often scared and unprotected In my cage. In the dry or rainy weather Sometimes hotter sometimes colder I just sat there growing older In my cage. The cat and dog raced by me Playing with each other only While I sat there feeling lonely In my cage. Upon the fresh green grass Children skipped and laughed all day I could only watch them play From my cage. They used to take me out And let me scamper in the sun I no longer get to run In my cage. Once a cute and cuddly bunny Like a little ball of cotton Now I'm grown up and forgotten In my cage. I don't know what went wrong At the home I did inhabit I just grew to be a rabbit In my cage. But they've brought me to the pound I was once loved and enjoyed Now I wait to be destroyed In my cage.

I know its to late now But yes, if not for you I wouldn't be rabbit stew In my cage.
