@ Victoria's Secret this afternoon (I know, but I am in desperate need of a new bra and couldn't afford to drop a lot of $$ for a good one): Me (clutching **4** bras, all the same size): Have you changed your sizing recently? Sales lady: No...why? Me: Because all of these say they're my size and yet none of them fit. SL: Are they too big or too small? Me: Both, but in different places. SL: (holding/waving a bra from my rejected stack) Even this one? This one doesn't fit? Me: No. SL: (really, really loud and accusatory) BUT IT FITS EVERYONE!!!!!!

yeah, I stopped going years ago when I came out of the dressing room looking like I had U-boats taped on to my chest and the salesgirl practically squeeled "You look great!" I've had good luck with H&M bras, but like to splurge at Bra Smythe when I need a good everyday bra.
-
I may just have to suck it up and splurge. Ugh.
-
i have a friend who only shops designer boutiques in soho - but swears by the gap for bras - and she's like, and for ONLY bras.
-
it sucks that VS changed up on you, b/c I know when you find the size and kind that fit your body, you can usually just go in and buy off the rack (or online).
-
Suck it up, splurge. You'll be glad you did. If you bought the cheapie bra, you'd just end up back at the store looking for a new one in a couple of months anyway. VS makes shitty bras."...you can choose the rain....but I choose the sun..." - N. Costa
-
VS made the one(s) that are in the process of disintegrating. I bought them in March and am sad because I was hoping to wait a few more months before the splurge. I will check the Gap out, though, before heading over to Bloomingdale's. Thanks for the tip, Vanilla!

what about Macy's or Lord & Taylor?
-
VS stinks. They don't carry what they consider to be "irregular" sizes - so I stopped shopping there several years ago (not to mention my husband hates their things). I was in desperate need of a strapless bra a few weeks ago, and there is a VS near my office, so I went in there... the sales people (who I had to practically pay to "help" me) looked at me like I had 2 heads when I asked for a strapless bra in a 32C. "Umm, we don't carry that size. Is that really your size? Here, try a 34B." Sorry, you can't go down a cup and up a width on a STRAPLESS bra! Go to Bloomies or Macys - Bloomies during their sales is great, because you can get the really good bras (Chantelle, Aubade, Wacoal, Cosabella, CK, etc) for at least 30% off...

Well , at least you changed the "it fits everyone belief".

I hate VS. I LUUURRVE the lingerie shop on 5th Avenue, just south of the Key Foods. Love. Them. It's expensive, but worth it. Have also heard glowing reports about the Town Shop on the UWS. Haven't been there, though.
-
I, too, adore the lingerie shop near Key, but fear that 1) they won't have my size and 2) they will be wicked-spensive. Their jammies are $100.
-
Oh, yeah, they'll be spendy. But I have a couple of bras from them which I adore.
-
Yup, TownShop on Broadway and I believe 82nd rocks. You get a saleslady in your fitting room. The first time I went the saleslady almost immediately said I had the wrong size. I'd been a 36B forever. After the fitting and trying on multiple styles, I was actually a 34D.
I couldn't believe it. Neither could my husband(ha, ha). Bras are pricey, they were about $75 each. But worth the experience of discovering you've been wearing the wrong size all these years.
