Ordinarily, I'd just do it myself, but I'm going for a very "vintage", New Look kind of theme and don't want to make a huge liquid liner mess an hour before the ceremony. Anyone know of any talented makeup artists/hair stylists or salons that might help me achieve my bridal look? The wedding isn't until next autumn, but I thought I'd start asking around.....

Have you gone to any of the bridal shows in Brooklyn. There are usually salons there that will even show you some of their work. -
I have not...I might be afraid of bridal shows...... Should I conquer my fear?

You don't need bridal shows, go to indiebride.com - you will have no problem finding a recommendation for what you need. I just got married and that website really helped me out and I never ever stepped foot into a bridal show. They are only good for very traditional and dare I say it WICy type weddings. As for hair, I recommend Rudy at Fez Salon. He did my hair and my sister-in-laws for the wedding and both came out fantastic. I'm sure he'd have no problem helping you get the look you want.

I'm scared of bridal shows, too. I think that fear is well deserved. But thanks for the rec for indiebride. So far I've been able to manage without picking up a copy of Brides' Magazine (imagine that!) but I might need some ideas at some point. -
Hooray for indiebride! I will check them out.....I love offbeatbride.com, but they seem more heavily weighted on the advice side of things and less on the sourcing....

Yes the great thing about indiebride is that the advice is coming from other brides-to-be and generally posters come back and recap about their wedding day (and share photos, which is great for visual ideas!), so people can learn about how the vendor performed. And trust me, no one edits their feelings, if there was a bad vendor they will let you know. Also there is a 2009 NYC thread under Vendors and if you have picked a popular venue there are usually dedicated threads to other women getting married there. Shall I assume you both are getting married in Brooklyn? If that's the case I might be able to help with any questions or recs too, since I was married at Bubby's last month.

Congratulations on your marriage! We are having a small, family-only ceremony at City Hall followed by a luncheon at Blue Water Grill....and then a dinner party for about 40 of our friends/family that night.
