Nobody deserves to be attacked, and my heart goes out to those girls. But like many people in CH, a lot of the trouble they get into is caused in part by their own doing. What a shitty way to start the summer though.[

I just don't see shrugging, throwing your arms up at all that is wrong with the world and moving to the west coast as an appropriate response.If you're happy, you're not paying attention.

As the father of two young kids in the neighborhood, thanks for that. I just don't see shrugging, throwing your arms up at all that is wrong with the world and moving to the west coast as an appropriate response.
Sadly and respectfully though, I have to agree with the poster you are disagreeing with. I have two clients one whose son was very bright, and was targeted by other gang kids where he lived in Hunts point. It took a move to Staten Island to help that kid rehabilitate his life and feel safe enough to walk the streets.
Another young woman in the same area was attacked repeatedly, because she was dating someone's ex, who unbeknownst to her apparently, lived nearby her home.
In the news there have been several stories of school related bullying behavior that has spilled over into the private sector (home/streets) or onto the internet. The sad thing, is that its tough to fight those things, and for a child's safety it might be best to just pick up and relocate.
When I was younger I lived in a great neighborhood, but was bullied incessantly at one of my schools. I was lucky enough to have a transfer to another district, where my life improved exponentially. Sometimes its the school and sometimes its the neighborhood, but:
Quality of life/school is something you can't control on your lonesome in a troubled neighborhood/school. I know that from experience.

I'm agreeing with psychologist, and furthermore, I don't believe that this is a problem confined to cities. I know at least two kids who grew up in suburban communities where bullying was such a problem. In once case, the parents took the opportunity to move to a different town (something they'd been considering, but the bullying pushed them over the edge to make the decision) before their kids started high schools. In another case, the kid was able to secure a transfer to another high school without moving.

Heck, I am a parent raising two young children in (what many people here consider) a "lousy" neighborhood! Bullying is certainly not restricted to creed, color, age or location.

I read some of the posts for this thread. If only there was a mandatory diversity training for everyone who will become part of society!!!Before I became a professional, a business owner, a mother, I was a kid. Bullying can happen randomly without provocation. Sometimes these girls with time on their hands will find something to dislike you for, and they don't even know your name.
I am a Virgo..top that!!
