Hey everyone... creativity caps on please. My cousin just got back from the hospital after having a mastectomy, not cool. Luckily, she's doing well and is back at her place in Bed-Stuy. I was hoping to send her something to cheer her up but didn't really want to go the whole boring, "card and flowers" route. Does anyone know of any great "get well gift" ideas that I can order online or possibly over the phone and have delivered to her apartment. I would have ordinarily just walked there, but I'm up in the great white north (Albany) for a couple days. The more local the gift idea, the better. Thanks in advance for any tips!

For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.

If she will be going through chemo some really great head scarves. If she is home recouperating you can call her local nail salon and see if someone can go to her to pamper her with a manicure and pedicure (that always picks me up).

Be very careful with head scarves. Chemo will make her head extremely sensitive so only the softest softie soft scarves will do.

My friend loved the naughty shirts a la "fuck cancer". There are some less offensive, like "Chemo Sabe".

here's one site, but there are plenty:

You guys kick ass... all awesome ideas. I'm thinking fruit basket (for good nutrition's sake) and hilarious T-Shirt (for good humor's sake). Thanks so much!

My good friend went through the same procedure last year (she is fantastic now!), hope all goes well. I ordered a fruit arrangement from Edible Arrangements... healthy and beautiful!

what great ideas! You might also want to refer her to the Look Good, Feel Better program. http://www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org/

They have amazing non-medical services all focused on helping women regain their self-esteem when faced with the physical effects of cancer. Their website alone has many helpful links and tips, but their on-site events (at many local hospitals) are really loved by all who attend. My company donates goods and services to them and the women who have attended were thrilled and felt so good. Many had said they were more worried about losing their hair than the other side effects of chemo. My own aunt battled breast cancer and attended one of the workshops and said how much she loved it! Good luck to your loved one!

Thanks again for the outpouring of good ideas everyone... my cousin will love knowing that there are all these people who helped make the gift that much better!
