Last year while relaxing in my garden at twilight, I saw what I thought were bats, but realized after brief observation that they were swallows. So last weekend I'm in my garden relaxing at twilight when I see a bat circling my neighbor's maple tree. I'm glad to see a bat, considering the mosquitos, and I'm considering making a bat house. Has anyone else seen any bats? Also, the fireflies have started up here on Park Place.

I've seen the fireflies, but not the bats... 'skeeters haven't been so bad in the yard this year, but I would always welcome feeding bats or, better yet, dragonflies......not that there's anything wrong with that.

Dragonflies are very cool. I do remember seeing one in my garden, but I think they prefer areas with water, at least it seems that way to me.

Yeah, you're probably right - I bet that they need a bit more water than mosquitoes, if indeed they go through a larval stage in water. Or maybe they prefer the water because their food prefers the water?! Only google knows... (yeah, I'm feeling that lazy today!

I've been seeing lots of bats in prospect park at dusk so it's very likely that they are elsewhere in the area.

I've seen bats at JFK and around Euclid Ave (underneath the El), never around here though."Clamato! Straight Up! No chasah!

There are Bats in the Heights. There are racoons in Brower Park, although I haven't seen any in a year or so. -
there are bats in PH, raccoons, too. fireflies, dragonflies... wild bunnies. sometimes chickens on bergen street. anyway, how does one make a bat house?
