Sometime over the last day or so, a banner has been placed above 723 Washington Ave. It states "Coming Soon: Brick Oven Pizza"

Given its proximity to attractions such as Washington Commons and the "Police Detective Castle", I predict it will do well

This is a dated photo, the storefront on the right is now a tattoo parlor.

The pizza place will be another location of this popular pizza place located in Prospect Lefferts Gardens

      http://ginospizzabrooklyn.com/

It has lots of good reviews:

Looks like a solid place to have at the corner, and a little less gussied up that Pete Zaaz. We do already have that Gino's Pizza between Sterling and St. John's, however.

Yes, I initially thought that "our very humble Gino's" had somehow gotten their act together enough to buy and renovate a place.

Then, I did a little research and found the correct answer.

BTW, the property is being gutted. If you look at the base of the pull down gate, you can see that they appear to have removed the floor that separates the basement from the future restaurant.

This, the location, and the quality of dining they are providing at their existing shop has led me to speculate the following:

      A. Their definition of "soon" might by the Fall 2013, or beyond.

      B. When complete, this entity might resemble Amorina, on Vanderbilt

      C. They might have access to a backyard, which would allow dining in the warmer months. There is a big tree located behind Suite 723 in the above photo....

So what is the correct answer, if not Gino's?

The correct answer is: It is not "our very humble Gino's", but Prospect Leffert's Gardens "kinda snazzy Gino's" .

Seemingly, the PLG one is not very worried about people confusing the new Gino's with the existing one, despite it being close by.

Here's Yelp's photo of the existing humble one:

I don't think the present very humble Washington Ave Gino's is in any way related to new one.

Having once had some lousy pizza from the existing one, I'll even go a step further: I HOPE it is in no way related to the new one. When I spoke to the kinda snazzy PLG one, they told me they would offer something like the existing menu [http://mypizza.com/restaurant/menu/1135].

I shutter at the thought of our existing Ginos attempting such a menu....

The current Gino's and the PLG one are related. I learned this the hard way through a Seamless order. I hate the current one on Washington, but the one in PLG is good. So, I ordered from PLG Gino's on Seamless. My order arrived in 12 minutes, and I knew something had to be up because it would be impossible to cook a pizza and deliver from PLG to Prospect Heights in 12 minutes. I asked the delivery guy where he was from and he said the Gino's on Washington. Clearly, they are the same business and they filter online orders to the closest Gino's location. Lesson learned - never order from either one because you won't know where your pizza is from.

      Thanks for the info.

I suspect our very humble Ginos will be closed when the new place is completed.

      Hopefully, the food will improve.

The workmen took advantage of today's lovely Spring weather, and had the gate open today.

Construction is moving along nicely, but it won't have a backyard.

      ...this could open this summer.

March 23rd: Kitchen equipment, including pizza oven, is now installed.

We still need chairs and tables.

....At this pace, this place will be open by June 1st.

April 9: More kitchen equipment is in place. We still lack a front counter, where we would point to the slice we want, and booths to sit in while we eat the pizza.

These things could be put in place in 2 weeks.

It is not known whether the kitchen has had its inspection from DOH yet. Said inspections sometimes take a while to arrange.

Note: Front eating section will have not have a lot of space.

April 27: Staff member at current Gino's states that the new place will open before June 1, and that location closes then.

      New sign up:

I must confess to wondering if we will literally witness the employees moving flour and cheese from the old location to the new location in the final days of May.

      ...maybe using a cart.
