Did anyone else notice the lampost flyers advertising this new gym facility? I was excited to check it out and the flyers said "open now" but when I went at 6pm, prime workout time, the gate was down and I couldn't tell if anything was there at all...

From what I understand from the owner, (A friend of mine) it's not so much a "gym" but more of a personal training center, with directed training.

Not sure what all your "fitness pleasures" means, but there it is.

Knowing now who owns it, I wish it the best. But while I am a big fan of his tattoo shop (I got my back piece done there), and I am always vocal about loving a good salad, the lack of signage/street beautification I think is often a negative for them. They moved from Franklin and Park to the bigger shop now YEARS ago and yet it looks like a pop-up for the weekend tattoo place. I know that a lot of business is just walking past because of how they look from the street. The salad place...well, that's not just how they look. They take 20 minutes to make a salad...anyway, I digress. I like Chadon and I love when people believe in the area enough to build their businesses here over the years - but in my opinion there are so many improvements that could be made the current 2 businesses in the area, I just hope he isn't spreading too thin. Good luck to him.
And also. Why isn't there a big gym in the immediate area yet? Like a Dolphin Fitness sort of place - just a room with weights and a room with cardio machines and a room for classes. Nothing fancy - but a place I could stop at on my way home from work without following a class schedule.

There is a gym on the south side of St Marks, just east of Nostrand. I think it might be called "Nostrand Fitness". I haven't been inside, but it looks like a very basic weights-and-cardio-machines kind of place, probably no shower.
There's also, I think, Body Basix, also on Nostrand, but pretty far south, Crown St. http://www.yelp.com/biz/body-basix-fitness-center-new-york
I dropped by Fit Lab last night and was pretty put off by the prices - 4 MMA classes for $188? Yeah, I guess that's what it can cost in Manhattan, but jeez.

Lawd, yes, please! I would love this so much. I've only lived in CH for a few months and the best low-cost gym options I've found are St. John's Rec and Planet Fitness. They are both totally fine, but also a little out of the way for me. It would be nice to have something located somewhere in the middle.
