“We’ve had a number of incidents on Classon Avenue, and right now people are exceeding the speed limit,” said Councilwoman Letitia James.

Between 2005 and 2009 there were 357 injuries from traffic accidents, an average of 71.4 a year, putting Classon Avenue in the 76 percentile for accidents in the borough.

Great idea. There are so many accidents on Classon. Cabbies FLY down Classon constantly.

My mother has been petitioning for over a year to have speed bumps installed along that stretch. Just about every neighbor from Clara Barton High school down to the gas station on Myrtle Street signed the petition. DOT and MTA told her no because it would slow traffic down and it was still considered a bus route. Letitia said she would help to have then installed so the accident rate would go down. Now they(including Letitia) want to create a single lane to help slow traffic. Who do they think they are fooling. Traffic will not slow down. They will still speed down Classon. The only way to stop the speeding is to install the speed bumps.

Sometimes, traffic is more effective at slowing down cars than speed bumps.

I just hope the residents don't mind trading speeding vehicles, FOR more vehicles honking their horns.

For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.

I requested a stop sign on Prospect at Grand and they said they'd do a study. I was floored that I got something other than a mere acknowledgment. You might have some luck with that approach.

I'm not sure that's accurate. Speed bumps have mixed results. Single lanes have done well on other streets, such as DeKalb Avenue, or simply reducing lanes (such as on PPW)
