We arranged to meet some new friends from Park Place at Cafe 400 on Nostrand and Sterling to have dinner and check the place out. Our new friends brought along another couple from the neighborhood so there were six of us.

It's a really big space with a long bar, big screens, a stage, and a dance floor. It's not so much a restaurant as a party space. Still we were seated comfortably, as we had our choice of tables because there were few other customers. We were told that Friday and Saturday nights are hoppin', that Friday is karaoke and Sunday is comedy night.

We tried ordering off the menu, but the waitress told us this and that item are not available. So the chef came out of the kitchen and we agreed he would select a bunch of dishes and serve it family style. We loved the idea. A ton of food came out. First there was a platter of shrimp and chicken wings of various flavors like jerk shrimp and buffalo wings. Then he served grilled salmon, a pasta dish, red snapper and salad. Toward the end of the meal, another friend of our neighbors' came in and joined the table.

We had so much fun, we decided to put a party together once a month so we could hang out, make new friends and generally relax and party a bit. Kind of like what those Prospect Heights folks are doing with their 'happy hours' over on Vanderbilt.

So look out, we'll be back. Just keep your eyes peeled around here. We were thinking about first Thursday of the month, starting in April.

Starting in March would mean Thursday the 2nd, next week. I don't see why not! Let's see how much interest we can generate before then.

Just wanted to echo Hal's recommendation. We had great food on Thursday and the manger and chef were great. We ended up staying until after 11 and pretty much had the place to ourselves. It would be great to have a chance for all of us DH'ers to get together for a little music, drinks, and perhaps some dancing?

      See y'all on Thursday!

I can potentially come this Thursday, especially if it's on the later side...

It appears as if my indefinite gathering has become an event.

So far, it looks like we can expect:

      AR +1

      homeowner

      carnivore

      myself +1

and at least one DH moderator.

      Bring friends!

I figure I could hang out from about 7 or 8PM until 10 or 11.

You guys come over to our Happy Hours. It would be totally lame for us to say it's too far for us to go over there. FYI, I think alafairnadia might be able to make it too.

Nostrand on the 3. If you end up on the 2 or 5 you can take them to President and its 2 additional blocks to walk. For any directionally challenged folks, walk up Nostrand AGAINST traffic and its on Nostrand between Park and Sterling.

Just as an FYI, its kind of hard to see what's going on inside as the action take place on the second floor. Just go in the door next to the open sign and someone will point you upstairs. Look for the HUGE awning outside.

I am a good-for-nothing... I suggested we meet in March instead of waiting until April. Only thing is, I forgot my husband had bought Belle and Sebastian tickets for Thursday, so I won't make the cafe 400 social. Sorry but I'll make the next one.

If they play Judy and the Dream of Horses or Dirty Dream Number Two, it will definitely have been worth it.

      Enjoy the show!

Despite the lukewarm response, and the pending crystal precipitation for today, I'm going to show up at Cafe 400 tonight. It looks like we can count on homeowner and AR. Definite maybes are alafairnadia, Candicissima and carnivore. "Lurkers", I hope a few of you show up too.

Let's get this party started right.

I might make it, too... as long as I get something accomplished today and I'm not too exhausted. Gettin' old is a bitch...

Crown Heights, represent! You don't want there to be more PHers than CHers, do you?

Agreed 100%. It was great to meet Hal +1, homeowner and David. Food was good (shrimp pasta), and the space was impressive. I'm looking forward to the next CH happy hour!

So we had me plus the wife, carnivore, AR plus one, Candicissima, alafairnadia, homeowner, and a neighbor of mine.

It was fun, and great to meet you all. You young'uns party all you want but once a week is too much for this old man, though. We originally planned on once a month. "First Thursday" at Cafe 400.

Just want to second all the love! It was great putting faces with names. However, I'm with Hal. I think I used up all of my hang out time for the next couple of weeks. But I'll see y'all next month, without a doubt (and next time I'm coming hungry!!)

It was definitely nice to meet everyone! That space is crazy huge and the drinks are a little pricey, but a good time.
