I am moving to Brooklyn and I'm not sure if my realtor is being honest with me about Crown Heights specifically Eastern Parkway. He has shown me places on the 500 and 600 blocks of Eastern Parkway. Are these areas safe? I am a young white female and am worried about safety in the area. Any thoughts? Thanks for your help!

if you are worry about your safety. don't bother with any of the gentrifying areas. go farther in like bay ridge or bensonhurst tons of white folks and as cheap.Fight white guilt and injustice by smoking tax free guilt free Reservation Smokes or go gamble in a Native Casino.
I like to stick it to The Man, The Man happens to be Liberal in NYC(power Structure). -
It's the city. If you have street sense and you're on a well-lit boulevard like Eastern Parkway, you'll generally be fine. But things also happen unexpectedly -- there are no guarantees. I've lived on Eastern Parkway for 10 years now, most of that single. I've been fine (fingers crossed). For what it's worth.

overall i think highly trafficked streets are safer than desolate ones, namely because of course there are so many people/cars/etc and you are less likely to be targeted in a public situation---in ANY NY neighborhood. eastern parkway has great transportation access for subways and is beautiful!

The fact that you equate this with safety is pretty offensive. -

The fact that you equate this with safety is pretty offensive.
Yep carnivore.. It is offensive... hey the OP did announce their "whiteness" but I would be more assured to "get off the train" with people of ANY color that didn't mean me harm. -

“Eastern Parkway is safe those blocks especially are safe I used to live there. In general you will always have other Caucasian people getting off the train with you.†I was NOT equating those two. One has nothing to do with the other; I was just telling her that A. this area is safe. B. allot of other hipsters are moving into the area. C. welcome to the neighborhood. “If you are worry about your safety. don't bother with any of the gentrifying areas. go farther in like bay ridge or Bensonhurst tons of white folks and as cheap.

What exactly did he mean? Sound like that comment is a bit biased and racially motivated. Happens to be Crown Heights North is predominantly African American and it also happens to be a safe place to live. The comment was not meant in an offensive way at all. -
Eastern Parkway was laid out and designed by Frederick Olmstead, the same man who designed Prospect Park and Central Park. The idea is a boulevard in the European tradition. It can be dangerous, however, because vehicular traffic moves along at 35 to 40 miles an hour. DO NOT CROSS AGAINST THE LIGHTS. For your safety, cross at the crosswalks and obey the signals. As for the people you will meet, YOU MUST LEARN TO SAY HELLO. . I was walking to Fulton St. on Brooklyn ave recently and was passing two fellows stopped and having a chat. You know when you look at people and catch their eye, you can instantly get a vibe. So as I pass these two young men (30's) in hip-hop garb I got a good vibe and I said hello. So one guy says hello back to me as I pass and oh by the way he says, "you're the first white guy to say hello to me in this neighborhood". You know, I wasn't surprised, judging by what I read here, and see in the street. People want to know if it's safe here because there are black people. And people won't say hello to their neighbor. It disappointing that this behavior continues in Brooklyn, of all places. New Yorkers are supposed to be liberal and even progressive. Come to Crown Heights and SAY HELLO.

from the looks of the threads in this forum Crown Heights is a warzone. maybe people wouldnt be worried if every other thread wasnt about someone getting pugged or someone plowing their car into a store front after a police chase. its not always about race.

Crown Heights is NOT a warzone. Maybe the reason for the threads is because people talk about bad stuff. Who is interested in chatting about fluffy bunnies? I got through the whole weekend unscathed. People were friendly. People of color held doors for me, and I for them. I was assisted in the supermarket, finding the best fruit. A nice man helped me in the store next door getting what I needed for the kids for our trip to the beach. And he chatted with my son and gave him five. They recognized me in the dive pizza joint, and started making my usual order before I even made it. A lovely Carribean woman with a positively spell binding accent. Lilting, even. In any case. There are good things and bad things. I like the neighborhood. I'm proud to live there."It's only as boring as you make it."
You're making me want to poke my eyes out with a spoon. Stop that.
