prepared food or groceries? i would assume that you're talking about the ready-to-eat variety, and i'd be interested to know, too... i used to live on the other side of washington, and there were a ton of places to choose from... but i hear that it's a little more difficult on our side of washington...
...not that there's anything wrong with that.

I live on "the other side" and have not had any trouble getting food deliveries, even from as far away as Park Slope. Here are some of the places I order from most often:

Thai - Mango Thai in Park Slope

      Sushi - Gen on Washington

Pizza - Oscar's on 7th Avenue (sometimes they grumble about crossing Washington late at night), or Michael's on 6th/Bergen

Cheapo Mexican - New Fresca Tortilla on Flatbush

Carribean - The Islands on Washington

      Thai - ditto! Fantastic.

Carribbean - also ditto. They're pretty slow, but the food is worth it.

Indian - Joy (SO GOOD, and see an older thread on here for more raves)

Chinese - Hing Lung (next to the Met on Underhill)

Joy delivers to us! Awesome, since that the Indian place on Vanderbilt sucks.

neither Joy nor the spot on Vanderbilt are much to write about, but yep-- they deliver. Beats slaving over a stove for 5 hours, making tourka for daal.

Biscuit used to deliver as well, though it'd take a while. One of the chinese places down near empire is actually really good, and (to be expected) DIRT cheap.

Otherwise it's beef patties and bodega sandiwches.

anyone remember that Brooklyn Room Service thing from a few years ago? they'd deliver food from all over the borough for a modest fee...

I ordered from mango tonight and wasn't too impressed. the food was good, and decent quality. but spice/flavor-wise, the chinese place on vanderbilt next to the met is way better. and so is the islands. partly because I was able to eat all of the 'substance' of my dish in one sitting, which is rare for me when I have a late-night dinner. usually I have two dinners out of one.

but not slamming quality -- more quantity/value. oh, and I hate canned mushrooms.

Yeah I agree, I think I was more happy Thai delivered - the falvoring they use can be bland at times.

They do some things really well. Their Sweet Black Noodle with tofu and vegetables and their Garlic Seitan are both really good (I'm not vegetarian). I order from them a lot, but only those two dishes. Everyting else I've tried there, really wasn't my thing.

Yes, I'm obsessed with the sweet black noodle with chicken. The spring rolls aren't bad either. I've actually never ordered anything else, but people who have ordered other things with me have liked it.

Yes, the Chinese is good, but when you're in the mood for Thai, chinese isn't going to cut it!

Hmm, haven't tried the black noodle chicken dish - but will next time. I have found their entrees to be hit or miss, but I love a lot of their appetizers - corn patties are my absolute fave, with their imperial dumplings running a close second. Yummmm.

I used to do it with chicken, but I found the tofu and vegetables to be consistantly 100x better. Their chicken can be really dry sometimes and I hate that. I'm a knee-jerk carnivore, but I make an exception for that dish. The shrimp was pretty disappointing as well.
