I just saw a mouse scamper across my apartment, I tried to get it but it somehow fit itself underneath the small crack between the door and the floor and snuck into my room. How do I get ride of it? I don't want to kill it. Can I lure it out somehow? Any tips to help this not happen again? Thanks!!

And that's the way it is. -
Agree with ParadeRest, I've been using this type of mouse catcher for most of my life, I never have mice.

im sure that no kill tube method definitely works (and that is damn creative) but when you release them somewhere it's gotta be far from where you live. cause they will come back. we had mice two months ago, got rid of em. now just this week i saw a new little squeaky friend scampering along the wall in the living room. Might give this tube & bucket thing a try and set the little guy free in prospect park or somethin."the radio makes hideous sounds"

I dont know if you're keen on the smell, but we had some luck with peppermint and/or spearmint oil on cotton balls. You kinda need to know where they are coming in and out though... which might be hard in a multi-unit building. Also, make sure everything edible is sealed up tight in tupperware or something along those lines. Even those air-tight Ramen packages aren't mouse proof. If it gets too bad, and you are willing to use chemicals... we also had luck with Tomcat poisons. I think they make the mice thirsty, so they go outside to die... instead of stinking up the house. Good luck!

ew yeah the stink... we found a dead one that others had apparently decided to eat half of in one of our cabinets where we USED to keep all our plastic grocery bags to use for recycling. it was one gnarly stench when we uncovered it."the radio makes hideous sounds"

That DIY instructable trap looks pretty sweet, but if it doesn't work, I've always found Havaheart traps to be effective: http://www.havahart.com/store/live-animal-traps?gclid=CIOekOjlrJYCFQNaFQoduAGIyQ You can find cheap ($5 or so) knockoffs in hardware stores...I found mine in a hardware store in Chinatown, don't know who sells them in Brooklyn. Peanut butter really works as bait - give it a few days, I've never seen it fail."Go easy. Step lightly. Stay free." - The Clash

I must have Mighty Mouse in my apartment, he's been here 3 weeks already and refuses to die. At first I wanted a quick death for him, so I suggested regular snap traps to my boyfriend. We had those around with peanut butter, cheese and cookies (which apparently he liked because there were droppings in a cookie sheet I left on the stove). After 4 days, nothing. So I said, "fine, get the glue traps as long as I don't have to see or hear it."........nothing for 2 weeks with both kinds of traps. Then, the gutsy little thing started climbing on to the coffee table one evening while my boyfriend was sitting there eating his Crown Fried chicken. So we figured he liked the chicken enough, put some in the traps. ........nothing. We're on our 4th week, threw all the traps out and named him "Nutty Jr." It doesn't mean I want him here. Oh, I did have a cat until she died 2 months ago. I never saw a mouse or roach while she was alive. They totally sense it. We may have to adopt a new one soon.

When I lived with mice and couldn't fill all of the holes (which is an excellent start) and didn't want a cat I searched for an alternative to glue traps and snap traps. I got a version of the Victor mouse zapper at Pintchik or the likes and found it very effective on acute mouse outbreaks. No horrible glue trap to torture them and it killed them quickly. I smeared a little peanut butter on the inside of the holes. For a week I pretty much got a mouse as soon as I reset it. http://www.victorpest.com/store/rodent-control/M250PRO

Subject: Dealing with mice
Like others have said, filling holes (steel wool works great; caulking shut tight holes helps as well) is a huge help. Also, making sure you're not leaving out standing water where they can reach it also helps -- more often than not they're looking for water even more so than heat and food. If you decide to kill them avoid glue traps which are probably among the cruelest ways to go. Snap traps are cheap but can be messy and don't always work. We had good luck with a Rat Zapper (using energizer e2 batteries to get more "zaps" before reloading) -- it's a relatively humane death, doesn't make a mess, and makes disposal easy (just watch the number of zaps and make sure you replace the batteries frequently to avoid simply hurting the mouse with an underpowered zap). -
I had a mouse kicking my ass for over a month during the summer. I tried to "catch" it -- which is very hard to do. What finally worked for me was steel wool and spackle. Find every crack and whole in your walls and floorboards (in these old BK buildings, there are a lot). You'll find out the real hot entry spots by the shit they leave behind. Look behind the fridge, the stove, in closets. Steel wool the cracks and seal it over with spackle. I did that and presto, no more mouse. Hindering their entry works a lot better than trying to nab them. Try that. If that fails, get a predator.

i had a lot of mice in my old place. i filled every crack around the apartment and then put a tube sock full of rice in front of the door so it couldn't sneak under. i put glue traps out because that is all that got them. i know it was cruel and the screaching was so sad...but snap traps and others didn't work for me. make sure everything food related is sealed in glass or plastic. don't trust any cardboard boxes...rice/pasta/beans...even drygoods need to go into tupperware.. they eat the weirdest things.

MOD HERE actually, the way he's promoting his business is fine with our site rules. as far as i know (but feel free to correct me), he hasn't 1. started a commercial thread on a non-commercial board. 2. pretended to be a satisfied customer of his own business. 3. bumped 900 year old threads with non-sequiturs, LOLs, or similarly pointless comments followed by a sig line with his web address. 4. posted 15 times on every board promoting a plumbing business in seattle. behold: this is what a responsible business owner on brooklynian looks like.Bumping ancient threads with bot-like bullshit

All of my posts on this site are on pest related blogs only. With the exception of this one blog, my company was directly involved in the Bed Bug blogs concerning a certain property in Prospect Heights. Why? We were the company who removed the Bed Bugs.
Besides all this, I am a member of this blog and was handing out useful information that would benefit everyone with a mouse problem (including myself).
You should also know that my company does not advertise discounts. I did this to help you guys get rid of the Mice and save some money. -
Definitely get a mouser cat. I have never had mice since we moved in here and we have a million little holes all over our apartment, so I know they can get in. Our cat is diligent LOL (she's always pacing around checking corners and batting things aroung) and I believe mice can smell/sense her because we NEVER have them, ever!!! Good luck. Mice are cute but they are annoying.
