Police probe alleged home invasion in Crown Heights

(03/09/10) BROOKLYN - Several armed men allegedly stormed into a Crown Heights apartment overnight and threatened a family, witnesses say.

Tuesday morning, police were collecting evidence from the crime scene at the intersection of Lincoln Place and Franklin Avenue.

Tony Fisher, the owner of Fisher's Supermarket, says a man who escaped from the apartment ran into his store, dressed only in a T-shirt and boxer shorts, begging for help.

"He was obviously in shock [and] said that they invaded his house and [are] holding his family hostage," Fisher says.

No information has been released regarding possible suspects.

So, KWAK- were you there? What happened? Was this a personal (drug deal gone bad?) thing, or were they complete strangers to the residents.

Either way- that's pretty scary stuff...

Due to the serious nature of Home Invasions, most victims are usually targeted. The likely hood of a drug dealer/victim cooperating with Police is also highly unlikely, making these type of Crimes quite enticing!

I don't know about that. Definitely wasn't in my case and none of the other related invasions by the same perps that were subsequently discovered.

Spnder- so, someone broke into your home while you and your family were there and held guns to your head? Cause that's what happened in the above situation.

Home invasion doesn't mean getting robbed when you're not home...

Whatchuwant- No they were indiscriminately breaking into places regardless if there were people home or not. My roomate was home. I guess the point is that "Home Invasion" doesn't necessarily mean breaking into a place an holding a gun to someone's head... even if that may be what happened here.

If anyone has seen the movie "Paid In Full"... I think that break in scene is more indicative of the kind of home invasion KWAC speaks of, which IMO DOES only happen to drug dealers.

A home invasion is a more serious offense than just a Burglary due to the fact that the victims are home and property is removed from their person the incident would be classified as a Robbery, which is a more serious offense. Drug dealers arent the only ones targeted, sometimes the elderly are also the victims of such Crimes. The main premise behind these Crimes is that the payoff is usually going to be high so business owners or people who keep a lot of valuables in their home are sometimes selected, not solely drug dealers.
