At 4:10pm today on the corner of Schenectady Ave. and Union St., a middle aged African-American male with a gun in his hand walked over to another African-American male and shot him seven times at point blank range, killing him instantly.

The suspect - who was wearing a nylon garment over his entire head, concealing his face - calmly walked half a block toward Utica Ave., where he got into a waiting car and sped off.

This same intersection was the scene of a very similar incident in April of 2011, and many speculate that this corner is the hub of a drug-related crime ring.

This shooting marks the 17th homicide that has occurred in New York City since the heat wave began a week ago. It is the sixth killing since Friday night.

Um... how do we know he was middle-aged if his entire head was covered?

Better he should do it at point blank range than get some innocent bystander.

For some reason, I think this is not the first time the killer has killed someone.

Then he's experienced and that's why only the person who's supposed to get hit will. Since he was calm about getting away obviously he's done this before.

yes, if I have to have a guy who wants to kill someone in the neighborhood, I'd prefer this assassin-type guy to some guy who just shoots haphazardly on the street.

Lessons to fire a gun are helpful, but one can learn a lot from sheer practice.

...especially if your target is at close range.

Way back when I used to be pretty good with a rifle. Had my first BB gun when I was about eight and my father had quite a selection of firearms. I could hit the target pretty much in the middle with a .22 at 100 yards without a scope but the few times I shot a pistol, I couldn't hit the side of a barn from 20 feet. Ask any cop why it took 41 bullets to kill Amadou Diallo when only 9 bullets actually hit him. So, it's better to be point blank than some feet away.

Despite those miserable state, the police are more accurate than many criminals.

That said, we should take into account that the police have training (+) and are often being fired upon (-).

Whereas the criminal often has no training (-) and is often shooting someone who is unarmed (+).

It depends on the criminals. If you remember when the "mob" got Paul Castellano in front of Sparks on 46th and Lex no one else was hit. I guess it's the degree of "professionalism" you want to put into it.

WE are our worst enemy: Brothers have more to fear from Brothers than anything else. Black men kill each other on the regular and folks just go 'ho-hum' and move on with their lives. The expectation is that a Black man was the killer as well as the killed. It happens with such frequency that we shudder at the violence but not at the race of the perpetrators and the victims. I knew it, you knew it, we all knew it. What would be a cause for shrill reaction is if the killed was a White dude, and the killer was not.

I would be ecstatic if no one killed anyone in CH for the remainder of the summer.

Again, not about race. Its more about the fact the killer and killee both had rap sheets longer than this thread, so us common mostly law abiding folk think 'good riddance'.

      C'mon dude open your eyes...

One thing you gotta love about American criminals is they are mostly horrible shots. plenty of guns and plenty of violent criminals and plenty of drug/alcohol use. Should be tons dead.

But thanks to horrible shots and good emergency medical care, people mostly live.

I know its more than one thing :p.

Emergency medical care has saved thousands of people who would otherwise be dead. I'm sure there is a study out there that compares the likihood of dying of -say- a stomach gun shot in 1970 to a similar one in 2012.
