My girlfriend and I are looking at a nice apartment in a brown stone at this location. Can anyone give any info on this block or those close to it? We have spent time in Brooklyn before and are familiar with Franklin Ave. and to a lesser degree Nostrand. Main concern is safety for her taking the train alone. Thank you.

You could do a lot worse. New York is a nice, quiet avenue, and the area around there has come up a bit in the last few years. You're not far from shopping on Nostrand and Franklin and from Brower Park, and you've got the Nostrand 3 stop right next door. If you like the apartment I'd go for it.

My dog and I are both pretty wimpy, and we walk around that area pretty regularly.

      We've never had a problem.

For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.

NY Ave is very nice and safe. As long as you exercise the standard caution that all NYers use, you should be fine.

New York Ave is really nice! Close to the 3 at Nostrand, and there are quite a few buses that stop there too. Still pretty affordable--besides for the apartment buildings, there are 2-family homes with some pretty sweet two-floor apartments.

There is a wonderful block association building on the northwest corner of Lincoln & NY Ave. Many of the residents are very engaged in their neighborhood.

      in the thick of it
