The other night, I was walking past the Park Pl. Deli at Park and Classon, and noticed that guys were completely gutting it inside. It already looked nice and was pretty recently redone, so does anyone know what's happening to it now? It's attached to what looks to be the old location of Chavela's.

Note: I think the google street view presents an older version of the deli. The version that is being gutted is more recent....
For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor. -
They're probably following the lead of other delis that have revamped to better suit the ever-increasing yuppie/hipster presence in the neighborhood.

It was already pretty nice, which you can see if you scoot the street view down the street to 2011 imagery:

Mustapha (sp?) says they are renovating, though airly simple to figure this one out. I was a bit saddened to see the 100 year old freezer room in the back be ripped out, but progress - who really needs a room designed to hold ice anymore?

I predict an upscale organic grocer (like Bob and Bettys, or St. John's Market Place) is what this location will become.
The nearby Compare Supermarket may have caused him to have to up his game. I am glad he keeps changing his products and services to meet the changing desires of the neighborhood; that is usually the only way for a small business to survive.
