This one has some contradictory information.

MNS states the shooting took place near Bergen and Troy:

      Shooting
BROOKLYN: *SHOOTING* (77 PCT) BERGEN ST & TROY AVE. LEVEL-1 MOBILIZATION CALLED IN REGARDS TO A MALE SHOT. PERP M/B FLED LOC. (c) [MNS225]
      Bergen St & Troy Ave
      Brooklyn, NY
      7/31/2012 9:40 p.m.

However, the actual shooting is believed to have occurred nearby, at the corner of Kingston and St. Marks.

What is certain is that tomorrow, Thursday, 8/2/2012, a Shooting Response will be held at 6pm on the corner of Kingston and St. Marks.

Come out and meet folks who are trying to address the issue...

    2. It was definitely Kingston and St. Marks. Some of my neighbors heard the shot(s) and saw the people who were outside run for safety. Police then came and taped off parts of the block, said a guy was shot in the butt. There was still a police presence this morning. Don't know much else about the incident.

Remember the thread on here a few weeks ago asking about that corner? I wonder if that person ever moved in over there?

And that's the way it is.

      yea, I remember that thread.

We did everything we could to tell him it was a big city, and that he should consider living there only if it was his best option.

To be fair, an inch in any direction could be fatal for the intended target or the two year old child playing on the sidewalk.

And that's the way it is.

Do you honestly believe that some shithead is going to change his mind about killing somebody just because you stood on the corner for an hour with a bullhorn?

Perps inner monologue debate...I could get shot in return...the police might catch me...the police might shoot me...I could go to jail...my mom will be upset...a bunch of people will stand on the corner next week and hand out bumper stickers...Holy Crap! I can't shoot Jamaal! Those bumper stickers!

And that's the way it is.

      Nah.

That would be too simplistic, and I don't think his dialogue is that long.

I bet it is often as simple as "It is better to be caught with a gun, than without one. Yo, I am no joke, don't dis' me!"

And, given the state of economy, his level of education, his ability to problem solve in a constructive way, and his chosen field of work and/or associates ....NYPD and everyone else working on this issue will always have work.

BTW, there was a shooting last night (on August 1 2012) at Schenectady and Pacific.

These kids live there, and play there.

And were not happy about it:

I'd like to see a study done showing the number of violent crimes in an area and how it relates to the proximity/abundance of public housing in said area. It could also include a breakdown of perps who reside in/around public housing and a breakdown of victims with ties to public housing.

And that's the way it is.

      Here's two:

      http://socrates.berkeley.edu/~raphael/IGERT/Workshop/Matt%20Friedman%20-%20Fall%202010.pdf

      http://www.urban.org/UploadedPDF/412523-public-housing-transformation.pdf

While they focus on public housing (aka Projects) and subsidized housing (aka Section 8), an equally interesting study would focus on neighborhoods that feature unsubsidized, market rate housing for the poor.

Because many of NYC's most crime filled neighborhoods are also filled with public and subsidized housing, I would imagine that the study I seek would have to focus on rural areas.

....using percentages (as opposed to raw numbers), it would closely examine the crime rates, educational achievement, rate of incarceration, and the other measures of problems that criminologists love.

Do you think the uneducated "trash" that:
      - inhabits the nation's trailer parks and mountain "hollars"
      - survives off a combination of Meth/crank/ice, public assistance and food stamps

Would have statistics are comparable to those that relate to the residents of the Albany and Weeksville Houses?

There have been several instances of gunfire at Weeksville Houses since this little thread began this summer. Some resulted in injury, other didn't.

The project is back in the news today, as a result of a stray bullet that hit a resident inside her apartment in the face:
