First of all, why is the New York Press obsessed with Crown Heights?

Second of all, this article is extremely unfocused.

this is part of a special issue on brooklyn, see here: http://www.nypress.com

There seems to be a somewhat cynical tone to many of the articles.

Unfocused seems like a good description.

It seems to me the author didn't venture further east than Franklin, except by looking out his high-rise window.

No mention of the expansion of Brooklyn Children's Museum.

      I completely agree.

If the point of the article is to expose Alma's broken promises, more power to him.

But if the point is to pin the gentrification of all of Brooklyn on the hospital-- "At night, the lights of Brooklyn have the appearance of campfires on a battlefield and the Jewish Hospital, which happens to be the tallest building in the area, looks like a watchtower at the edge of an the untamed terrain, populated by those who would rule over it one day." -- like its some kind of throne, is pretty self-incriminating seeing that he is sitting atop it in his penthouse apartment.

Or maybe he's just calling for a bagel shop...?
    6. The Crown Heights North Association has been trying to get some real media coverage of North Crown Heights for years. The NYTimes featured NCH in the real estate section over a year ago and the Real Deal real estate mag in Nov. did a short piece that completely missed what was going on. Aside from that.... zilch.

Anybody know anybody that writes well? We've got lots of news, including potentially NYC's largest new landmark district. It's a shame that the 1991 riot is all the writer from the NY Press could think of to talk about. That story is so old it's growing moss.

Greg, please tell us more about Crown Heights North Association. What does Crown Heights "North" constitute? Is that anything like "South" Brooklyn? What kinds of projects are you working on?

Crown Heights North is Crown Heights between Atlantic Ave and Eastern Parkway. Crown Heights North Assoc. has submitted an application to the Landmark Preservation Commission to have a significant hunk of CHN made into a historic district, similar to Stuyvesant Heights, Clinton Hill or Fort Greene. Our spies tell us that the LPC has completed the required field work, where staff members photograph the buildings in the area, and they are now completing an in-house review. So..... any day now.

FYI, the next meeting of the Crown Heights North Assn. is Wed. Feb. 15th. 7 PM (there is a 6:30 orientation for new attendees) at the St. Gregory's RC Church school at St. Johns Place and NY Ave.

I have a feeling that Press article was written by our very own Alex.
