As 2012 ends, I have put some thought into the changes that will happen in Western Crown Heights during 2013.

While there are lots of small projects happening and planned, these six large scale developments strike me as being the most influential. In no particular order, here are the developments, and the threads we have been discussing them in:

      1. The long closed, former movie theater at Bedford and Lincoln will be torn down and construction on a large apartment building will begin. It is not yet known whether it will be condos or rentals:

      2. The long vacant, large lot located on Sterling, between Washington and Classon will be built on:

      3. The 1000 Dean St project (located between Classon and Franklin) will provide a permanent home to the Brooklyn Flea. An associated food court and beer hall will be opened nearby:

      4. The building being constructed at the highly visible corner of Franklin and Eastern Parkway will be substansially completed:

      5. The Court Officers Academy, located in the St. Theresa Complex on Classon, will open and house students:

      6. Construction on a large residential development will begin on St. Marks, between Classon and Franklin.

2013 looks like it will be a quite a year.

For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor.

It's going to be a great time to be here. Already, I was walking up Franklin the other day and was struck by the bright colors of the street even in December. Three years ago, half of these storefronts were nothing but permanently-shuttered, gray steel gates with the occasional swirl of graffiti.

These 6 things will give this bored writer a year of things to report on.

...Other people will merely obtain jobs, housing and skills from them.

Much of this development stems from the soaring home prices in the area. Buildable land does not remain idle in such an envornment. http://www.propertyshark.com/Real-Estate-Reports/2012/12/27/booming-neighborhoods-in-brooklyn/

Readers, I expect that the "Big 6" will be discussed throughout the year. ...and this thread serves as a handy way of finding the associated threads.

So, we can either get the mods to permanently "Sticky" this thread so it is on top of the CH section, or you can type "big 6" in the search field, and then post in the correct threads.

...this way, we will be able to see our brilliant thoughts on the 6 projects evolve and devolve as time goes on.

I've added a "big 6 developments" tag to your post. It will be more searchable that way.

      brilliant!

My life will be complete when DNA.info, the NYT, WSJ, Curbed and/or The Patch describes the developments as "The Big 6".

...then, I will know that I am truly making a difference in the CH Neighborhood Change Narrative.

So far, after all, I have barely been noticed.

      /sarcasm

About once every two weeks, I will bump this thread, because I want to be in the right place and the right time, for some pressed for time media writer

S/he will reference and list the Big 6, and my simple goal will be met.

This article in Crains discusses the numerous developments that are underway (or planned in the immediate future) for Downtown Brooklyn.
