PH/CH Patch » Men Arrested with Loaded Guns on Park Place

Cops arrested two men they found with loaded guns at the corner of Park Place and Classon Avenue.

Police stopped 19-year-old and a 23-year-old who were in a 2004 Range Rover at the corner of Park Place and Classon Avenue at about 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

The 23-year-old had a .22 caliber Phoenix Arms and the 19-year-old had two loaded guns, a .22 caliber Phoenix Arms and a .25 caliber Titan with the serial number filed off. Both men were charged with weapons possession. The report did not indicate why the Range Rover was stopped.

Two Crack Cocaine Arrests

Two people were arrested on the same day charged with having crack cocaine in public view:

A 40-year-old man was arrested after cops spotted him with crack cocaine in plain view at the corner of Bergen Street and Classon Avenue at about 10:25 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8.

A 24-year-old woman was arrested inside a bodega at the corner of Franklin Avenue and St. Johns place and charged with having of crack cocaine in public view just before 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8.

Burglary on St. Johns Place

A 35-year-old woman came home to discover that someone had broken into her third-floor St. Johns Place apartment and stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and electronics.

The thief apparently climbed up the fire escape at the building between Underhill and Washington and got in through a window with a broken lock. Taken was a $1,150 Sony Playstation 3, a Macbook Air laptop worth $1,000, a Tiffany necklace worth $150, a camera and some video games. The burglary took place on Friday Dec. 9, sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Burglary on Sterling Place

Someone broke into an apartment on Sterling Place between Classon and Franklin and stolen about $3,250 worth of computer equipment.

A 29-year-old woman came home at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, to discover that a thief had apparently come through the back window and taken a $3,000 Macintosh computer as well as well as an iPod, iPod dock and cell phone.

Dean Street Marijuana Arrest

A 62-year-old man was arrested for marijuana possession after cops saw him with it in plain view as he stood in front a an apartment building on Dean Street between Washington and Grand avenues at about noon on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Dean Street Playground Cell Phone Swipe

A man’s cell phone was stolen out of his unattended bag while he was playing basketball at the Dean Street Playground on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 10.

The thief apparently climbed up the fire escape at the building between Underhill and Washington and got in through a window with a broken lock. Taken was a $1,150 Sony Playstation 3, a Macbook Air laptop worth $1,000, a Tiffany necklace worth $150, a camera and some video games. The burglary took place on Friday Dec. 9, sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

I hope they confused the value of the two of these. What was that PS3 made from, gold?

A 48-year-old male making a delivery on Franklin Avenue between Lincoln and St. John's Place had $10,000 stolen from his red commercial van while it was parked on Dec. 21 at 12:40 p.m. There were no signs of forced entry or damages to the vehicle.

Crack Cocaine Sold on Classon Avenue
Two suspects—a man, 46, and a woman, 45—were arrested on Classon Avenue between Sterling and St. John's Place on Dec. 22 at 9:40 a.m. for the sale of crack cocaine.

Mugging at Gunpoint
On Classon Avenue, between Bergen and Dean St., a 32-year-old woman was held at gunpoint by two suspects on Dec. 20. While walking along Classon at 7:20 p.m., a male and female approached the victim from behind with a silver gun and demanded money. The pair of assailants took the victim's cash and cellphone, then fled on foot west bound on Bergen St.

Car and Christmas Presents Jacked on St. John's Place
On St. John’s Place between Washington and Underhill, a 35-year-old woman was the victim of a pre-Christmas car-jacking. On Dec. 23 at 10:31p.m. a witness involved watched as the grey 2010 Chrysler Town and Country van was taken by an unknown man. The doors had been left unlocked with keys in the ignition. Additional items that had been inside the vehicle at the time of the incident included a Louis Vuitton purse, a black wallet, a Motorola cell phone, a Nokia cell phone, a red suitcase containing clothing, Christmas gifts and various credit cards.

GPS Swiped From Jetta on Plaza Street East
On Plaza Street East, between Vanderbilt and Butler, a male, 33 reported returned to his parked grey Volkswagon Jetta to find the front side passenger window was broken and his GPS removed on Dec. 21 at 8:13 p.m.

Garage Break-In on Underhill
Upon approaching her garage on Underhill Avenue between Pacific and Dean Street, a 44-year-old woman discovered her plexiglass garage-door window pushed in and window glass of a nearby door also broken on Dec. 24 at 10:20 a.m.

Knives, Burglary Tools, and Graffiti Paraphernalia Confiscated
A police officer patrolling Lincoln Place, between Washington and Underhill Avenue, on Dec. 24 at 12:35 a.m. observed a suspect cursing and yelling in the middle of an indoor hallway. He was found to be in possession of a gravity knife.

On Washington Avenue, between Bergen and Dean on Dec. 22 at 12:48 p.m., a 61-year-old man was arrested for possession of an open container of alcohol in public view. During a search he was also found to have a “butterfly” knife.

At the corner of Dean Street and Grand Avenue on Dec. 21 at 10:43 p.m. a 44-year-old man was arrested for allegedly obstructing traffic. When apprehended by the police, he was found to posess burglar tools and graffiti instruments with no legitimate purpose, including a screwdriver set, boxcutter, gloves, and Sharpie permanent marker.

I'm not sure the car jacking really counts as a car jacking. It does not sound like the guy used force to take it. ...it was sitting there, running, with lots of valuables inside....

A few more muggings this week:

Patch » Two more people have been mugged near Franklin Avenue by robbers who threatened to shoot them, continuing a string of strong-arm attacks in the neighborhood.

On Sunday, a 36-year-old woman was walking up the stairwell in her apartment building when a man held up what she described as an “artificial” looking handgun and said repeatedly, “give me your phone lady,” according to a police report.

The woman handed over her wallet, which held about $100. The thief then ran off, the report said.

The attack happened just before 2:20 a.m. on Jan. 8 in a building on Lincoln Place between Classon and Franklin avenues.

On Monday afternoon, Jan. 9, a 33-year-old man robbed at the corner of Dean Street and Franklin avenue as he was walking to the bus stop.

Just before 4:10 p.m. a man came up to him holding an “object in his waistband” and threatened to shoot him. The robber then reached into the victim’s rear pocket and took out his wallet, which had the man’s passport, credit cards and $15.

Then the thief ran away, according to a police report.

Dep. Inspector Elvio Capocci, head of the 77th Precinct, said he has placed extra foot patrols in the Franklin Avenue area and reminds residents to avoid showing cell phones and other electronic devices while walking outside.

He also recommends people avoid walking alone at night if possible. One option for getting home safely is the Brooklyn Bike Patrol, a free volunteer escort service.

The woman was walking on St. Johns Place between Bedford and Franklin avenues at 12:35 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, when the man came up to her behind.

He jabbed the gun-like object into her back and told her to hand over her backpack and money. After she handed over the goods, the man ran off. In addition to the backpack, the woman was out several credit cards and an iphone, but there was no cash in the backpack, according to the report.

It looked like Gothamist was reporting it was a medical patient and they had K9 Units out as well. Later it said there were two perp searches, not defining the 1010 President st. one as the escaped King County hospital patient.

I hope they caught him. All the yelling and noise they were making at 4:30am was pretty alarming. They were searching the roofs, basements, and walkways between President/Carroll and Franklin/Bedford. There had to have been at least 100 law enforcement agents in the area (not an exaggeration). Carroll was blocked off at Franklin and half the street was filled with police vehicles (marked and unmarked). President had them lined up the south side of the street from Carroll until halfway to Bedford and they filled the street on Franklin between Carroll and President.

An unhappy customer took his frustration out by smashing the front window of James restaurant with a hammer.

The man had an argument with a staff member over the service on Jan. 25 at the restaurant, located on the corner of Carlton Avenue and St. Marks. He left, but then came back just before 7:30 p.m. wielding a hammer. After breaking the window he took off down Carlton towards Flatbush. There were no injuries.

Woman Arrested after Stiffing Cabbie

A 21-year-old woman was arrested after she took a taxi from Manhattan to Park Place and Grand Avenue, but didn’t have the cash to pay when they arrived. The arrest took place at 4:20 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29.

$70 Bodega Scam

A man of about 45 placed a $6 order at a bodega and paid with a $100 bill. After he got his change he said he was overcharged wanted his money back. The clerk handed him the Benjamin Franklin. The man than handed over a $20 and four singles and ran out.

The theft took place at Lincoln Place Deli Corp. on the corner of Classon Avenue and Lincoln Place on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 12:45 p.m.

$1,200 Bike Theft

A 38-year-old man said TCR Road Bike worth $1,200 was stolen from his apartment building garage. The theft took place sometime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27 at a building on Pacific Street between Washington and Grand avenues.

So I believe you still have to pay but demand they take you off meter and drive you to an ATM. Additionally, take down their medallion number and promptly call 311 to complain. It really does affect them - all are investigated.

Yes, that is what you should do if the credit card reader is broke. However, I'd be surprised if this was a case of someone who was merely short of cash.

For example, she may have just arrived at her location than bolted out of the cab....
Pure supposition of course.

Note to self: Have enough $ for cab just in unlikely event that credit card machine is broken, AND NYPD arrests people simply for this.

It doesn't look like it was an especially bad week for Crow Hill; much of this seems to be spread out among the "West of Bedford" area that the PH Patch focuses on.

A 25-year-old woman was robbed by a knife-wielding man who demanded she give up her iPhone as she left a grocery store near the corner of Prospect Place and Franklin Avene late Sunday night.

“Take the phone out of your pocket,” the man ordered as he grabbed her hood from behind with a knife as she left the store at 11:10 p.m., according to a police report.

The man snatched the phone and ran soutbound on Franklin Avenue He is described as a 40-year-old black man, standing 5-foot-6 with short hair.

Women Robbed on Vanderbilt

Two women had just come out of a bar on Vanderbilt Avenue near Bergen Street when they were attacked and robbed by two men early Monday morning.

One of the women, 31, was struck in the face and had her wallet lifted, while the other woman, 30, had her cell phone violently snatched from ear as she was talking on it, according to a police report.

Cops describe one of the attackers as a black man with dreadlocks, standing 5-foot-10 and wearing a sweater or vest. The other was described only as wearing a waste-length, black jacket.

Woman Robbed at Bank ATM

A quick cash grab was made inside the Chase Bank on Flatbush Ave. near Grand Army Plaza when a woman turned away from the ATM to help her child.

The 24-year-old woman went to pick up something her child had dropped and someone swooped in and swiped $420 she had withdrawn from the cash dispenser just before 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 8, according to a police report.

Cops described the thief as a black man with short hair, standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 180 pounds.

Teenager Attacked

A pack of female teens beat up a 16-year-old girl as she walked home from school.

The teen was walking on Prospect Place and Grand Avenue just after 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 8 when three girls approached her and one started asking her questions.

The confrontation quickly turned violent when the three teens started kicking and punching the victim, who was later treated at Long Island College Hospital.

All three attackers, a 16-year-old and two 15-year-olds, were busted and charged with assault. The cause of the fight was not immediately known.

Tax Invasion

A 28-year-old man is claiming identity theft after he learned his taxes were filed—but neither he nor his accountant did the paperwork.

The Bergen Street man, who reported the incident to police on Feb. 12, went to prepare his annual tax return, but was informed by his accountant that someone had already filed on his behalf, according to the police report.

The victim flagged the apparent financial finagling to the Internal Revenue Service and said someone had used his personal information on the forms.

A few cell phone grabs, a $ grab at an ATM, teens beating the crap out of each other, ....nothing out of the ordinary.

I had a similar incident last week coming from JFK. The driver insisted his reader was working while flashing me a fat stack of receipts. I called shenanigans because it was 7:30am when he picked me up from JFK, so he couldn't have been at work long enough to have an inch high stack. I sat in his cab and called the bank. They told me there was absolutely nothing wrong with my any of my cards (debit or credits). I walked to the bodega on the corner and took money out of the ATM. My friend suspects the driver fiddled with the system so that my card wouldn't work, forcing me to pay cash. I don't know, but I guess that's possible. I was scared $hitless because I knew I could get arrested if I didn't pay AND we were sitting right in front of my apartment.

Why would you be scared $hitless about being arrested? Drivers deal with this all the time. The driver would have no reason to call the cops unless you actually tried to skip the fare.

Grabbing a gun from a mugger seems like a bad idea.

Patch » A 35-year-old man turned the tables on a would-be thief by grabbing the gun from him during a mid-afternoon robbery attempt in Crown Heights.

The man was walking home the Franklin Avenue train station at about 2:15 p.m. on Feb. 12, when he noticed someone following him. The thief came up to him and took out a silver handgun. But instead of giving up his wallet, the man grabbed the gun, according to a police report.

“Are you (expletive) crazy? Give me that gun back!” the thief said. But the man held fast and the thief ran off, according to the report.

The victim had no injuries from the incident, which took place on St. Charles Place, which is between St. Johns and Lincoln places and Franklin and Bedford avenues.

The thief is described as a black man weighing 160 pounds with brown eyes, medium dark skin and clear complexion. He was wearing blue jeans and a waist-length black jacket.

Feb 22nd New Week! New crimes!

Patch » $2 Shoplifting Arrest

A 19-year-old man was charged with stealing two cans of Nutriment, worth $1 each, from a Franklin Avenue bodega, according to a police report.

The theft took place between 1:45 and 1:59 a.m. at Gourmet Deli at 790 Franklin Avenue on Sunday, Feb. 19 and the teen was arrested the same day.

Sterling Place Burglary

Someone stole $4,950 worth of electronics from a Sterling Place house while it was being renovated.

The 36-year-old owner said he left keys with a contractor and a painter on Feb 14. He returned to the house, located between Underhill and Washington, five days later to find it burglarized.

Taken was a $2,500 Apple MacBook Pro, a $600 iPhone 4, a black leather briefcase worth $1,000, a $500 Waterman pen set, $250 in computer accessories and a $100 EZ Pass. The plumber and contractor both denied taking the goods, according to the police report.

Bergen Street Bike Theft

A $200 Nishiki bicycle and, ironically, a $45 lock, were stolen from in front of an apartment building on Bergen Street between Carlton and Vanderbilt on Feb. 14 between 10 a.m. and noon. The report did not indicate whether the bike had been locked at the time.

Fake Traveler’s Check Passed at Boutique

A woman scammed a Vanderbilt Avenue boutique when she bought a $25 bracelet using a $100 counterfeit traveler’s check, and left with $72.38 in change. The incident happened at 1 of a Find, 633 Vanderbilt Ave. between St. Marks and Prospect at 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 13, according to a police report.

Dean Street Playground Theft

A 15-year-old boy said he left his bag on the soccer field and when he returned 10 minutes later the bag was emptied out all over the ground and a $195 set of Dr. Dre Beats headphones were missing. The theft happened on Feb. 14 at 4:45 p.m., according to a police report

In this age of ATM's and credit cards, I was unaware that Traveler's Check were still in existence.

While I feel bad for the cashier, I'd like to think I would not accept a form a payment I had not seen in 35 years.

DWI Arrest

A 25-year-old man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a cop saw him asleep at the wheel while the car was running and still in drive.

Cops spotted the man in his Chevy Aveo while it was double parked on Franklin Avenue between St. Johns and Lincoln places at 2:52 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 19.

After a police officer woke the man up, he was “unable to respond to the officer’s commands.” He also had watery eyes, slurred speech, “disarranged” clothing and a strong smell of alcohol. He refused to take a Breathalyzer test, according to a police report.

Ecstasy Arrest

A 23-year-old man was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after a cop spotted him with a Ziploc bag of ecstasy on Franklin Avenue between Prospect and St. Marks at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Window Smash

A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged with criminal mischief he punched the drivers side window of a car so hard that shattered. The report did not say why the man smashed the window. The incident happened on Dean Street between Classon and Franklin on Monday, Feb. 13 at 8:25 p.m.

Laundromat Wallet Swipe

A thief stole a 29-year-old woman’s wallet from her jacket pocket as she was doing laundry at a Franklin Avenue Laundromat.

The pickpocketing took place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and was caught on the shop’s video camera. The woman lost $40 in cash plus credit cards, a Metrocard and a Brooklyn Botanic Garden membership card, according to a police report.

Man Flees Accident, Leaving Car

A man abandoned his car in the middle of the street and fled after getting into an accident.

A 37-year-old man told police he was driving on Bedford between Sterling and St. Johns when a car rear-ended him. The other driver got out of his white 1990 Nissan Maxima and ran off, according to a police report.

The rear-ended driver complained of leg pain and could not describe the second driver. The accident took place on Sunday Feb. 12 at 9:36 p.m. As of Feb. 27, there had been no arrests, police said.

Controlled Substance Arrest

A 40-year-old man was arrested behind an apartment building on Bergen Street between Classon and Franklin avenues and charged with possession of a controlled substance after a cop spotted him with a hypodermic needle. The arrest took place on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 2:58 p.m., according to a police report.

Cell Phone Swipe

A 27-year-old teacher left her bag on a chair in the auditorium at P.S. 22 and when she returned an hour later her $600 Blackberry Bold was missing. The theft took place at 433 St. Marks Ave., on Friday, Feb. 17 between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., according to a police report.
