Got a letter from CV letting me know that the $99 per month special offer for cable, modem, and voice over ip will be going up from 99w surcharges to about 140 w surcharges. Do I have to rent there modem? Is there anyway I can get all this a lil' cheaper?I still can't believe at almost 140-145 and I still don't get to watch Dexter,Weeds or The Tudors without paying extra!?!
-
The $99 is for the first year then cable and and internet go up. Phone stays the same I believe. As far as the modem I believe it's free or there is a small rental fee which you are tied into. It's too bad cause the $99 is sweet, but then again gotta have it... I pay $167 per month for one HD with HBO and IFC.

If you have a cell phone anyway, ditch the phone part.

If it's like Time Warner, you get a monthly fee to rent their modem. You can buy one and take there's back. It pays for itself within a couple months. This is something I've planned to do (but I've been too lazy to research a good modem)(\__/)

keep in mind that as soon as you get a 3rd party modem, ANY cable company will blame any problem on the modem first.

I agree. Don't mess with the modem, but make them replace it every few years. Don't rent an old modem, get the latest and greatest for your money. I need to upgrade both my cable boxes myself. It's been 4 years, hah! CV is by far the best service. I work as a field engineer for many companies in NYC and BK and I can tell you that TWC is the worst, both on service and support. Also remember if you drop the landline, you don't get the discounts and you may end up paying more for 2 services than 3. Plus Optimum rewards = Free Movie Tuesdays! I pay $165/mo for basic cable with 2 TVs, one DVR and other HDTV, a landline and FAST internet (~8-15Mbps). 3 roomates... not too bad.Be civil to all; sociable to many; familiar with few; friend to one; enemy to none. -Ben Franklin

We have IO Gold package (all the channels), 4 cables boxes (1 with DVR) plus the internet (no phone service) and we pay $185 per month. If you have their cable and internet service they give you a $5 discount off the internet service. Also there is no charge on my bill for modem "rental". If I am not mistaken it is given to you for signing up with them. Also they do not charge for their HD service. -
Also if you drop any part of their service they cut your bandwidth and the internet slows down. We have three cable boxes and the modem (+online boost), our $99 year just finished so we're up to 158.86 a month. When we got the third cable box, they boosted the signal.

Optimum online is $45. Cable (w/ family plan) is about $100ish with all my rentals and whatnot. From my perspective, there are only 2 reasons to have a landline: to have a line that works during a blackout, and to have a secure line. Neither is the case for a VOIP line. Why pay for it? -
We're actually about to switch from Optimum internet to Verizon. They're ripping us off. We currently have the triple play but our internet is too slow!

Has an Optimum tech been to your place to fix the issue? Verizon is DSL, not cable = also slow. (unless you get FIOS--which I think is a rip off too). DSL is about 800kbps down. Optimum at my place is about 14,000kbps down.Be civil to all; sociable to many; familiar with few; friend to one; enemy to none. -Ben Franklin -
^ Sorry, only saw this post just now. Yes, we've had a couple techs come over. One had no idea what he was doing or looking for. The 2nd guy knew what he was doing but he said he couldn't do anything about it. Anyway, it seems to have gotten better (on its own, maybe) because it's pretty much back to normal now.
