At about 1:30 a.m. this morning, there was a lot of screaming coming from Franklin Avenue near Sterling and then a lot of police cars. Anybody know what happened?/

We live near Franklin & St. John's. We heard gunshots, followed by screaming and commotion; we saw dozens of people (mostly black teenagers & young adults) running northbound on Franklin. The shots seemed to have come from around Franklin & Lincoln Pl.
4-5 police cars were on the scene in minutes, along with several cops on foot. We heard a second series of shots, but haven't heard any news yet regarding what happened.

I only heard one gun shot followed by screaming. The shot I heard was definitely fired on Lincoln and Franklin as I could see the commotion out my window and the cops seemed pretty concentrated on that corner.

I'm on St. John's near Franklin. There were two rounds of shots. After the second round, some young women who were on my corner started running east on St. John's and ducked behind a car, and one of them pointed and said something to the effect that she thought the shots had come from a passing car (she was pointing toward Franklin). I'm hoping that no one was hurt as I haven't found any news reports about this yet.

West indian day parade prep?

maybe the shooter in the car was the same one who shot the kid on St. Marks 10 minutes later.

That shooting was actually about 24 hours later, but I like the detective work.
For better or worse, the change on Nostrand is going to make the change on Franklin look minor. -
Heh. Lived just passed the corner of Frnklin and Lincoln for almost 9 years. Every summer, shootings took place on the corne, usually in front of Shorey Deli, multiples times. Like 40 ft from our bedroom window. It only started to slow down down about two-three yrs ago, but it still happened.
If you're happy, you're not paying attention.

Yes, it is tough for newcomers to perceive what they are witnessing as "progress", even though that is the case.
On a related note, here is this week's crime blotter covering this immediate area:
