The guy had been in and out of the building for days. More than a few residents had interactions with the attacker (myself included), so needless to say, we are devastated that this happened practically under our nose. He came off as very friendly (called me "Neighbor"), yet when he attacked, he was brutally violent. He remains on the loose. I just want to tell you - please don't let ANYONE in your building that you don't know. It may be awkward, but its for your safety and the safety for those you live among."...you can choose the rain....but I choose the sun..." - N. Costa

Christ!! So friggin' scary! I hope your neighbor is okay - physically. Mentally she's probably a goddamn wreck. I hope they catch this sick fucker.Babies aren't meat! They're not even people!
-
She's not ok- she was beaten, choked into unconsciousness, and needed stitches. He messed her up pretty good. This monster is a sexual predator, with not one humane element to him, and needs to be taken down like the piece of shit that he is."...you can choose the rain....but I choose the sun..." - N. Costa

That sucks. Was he caught? I'm sure I've not been as careful as I could be, but I have questioned people many times if I am not sure they belong - I've asked to see ID from Time Warner people who didn't come in uniform or in a normal TW truck. I don't open the door unless I know who it is......I've asked people who have tried to piggy back into a building with me who they are visiting, etc. Don't be afraid to ask questions!

How horrible for her and I'm sure upsetting to all of you in the building. Is there any kind of description on the guy? Maybe a sketch has been drawn by now that you can post or point us to. This is also a good reason to become familiar with who your neighbors are so you know who definitely lives there and so you can watch out for each other.
-
Yea, any description? That way we could all keep our eyes open and hopefully help to prevent this from happening to someone else. Thanks for the post...I'll be extra careful around my building.
-
this is so awful, my heart goes out to this woman.
-
Ok- so I posted his description earlier, but I did it via phone and I guess it never showed up....or something. Anyway- fairly good news- just got off the phone with the detective and he was caught just a half hour ago! This massive load of garbage had a rap sheet and was on parole. I guess the prints he left behind solved this quick. I have to identify his mug shot (too bad I can't look him in the eye and spit in it) and the detective says we'll never see him again. Now- onto getting cameras in the building...."...you can choose the rain....but I choose the sun..." - N. Costa

if the victim needs any additional help please let me know. speaking from my own experience it took me a great deal of psychological help and the support of my peers to get over what had happens. I would suggest serious therapy and hope she has the health insurance to get the best care. sending feelings of love and support her way and i am here if she needs to just talk to another woman who has been sexually assaulted to work through her feelings.
-
I'm glad they caught the asshole. Maybe he'll be raped in prison.
-
Hope she will be ok. What a freakin animal. Castrate sex offenders! What street? Great job by police for the quick arrest. Tell her many people are thinking about her.
-
Why are people talking to strangers and letting them "in and out" of their homes? If strangers don't know any one in the building, what are they doing in the building? If we're gonna let any tom, dick, or harry waltz into our homes, why do our homes have doors?I blame such comments on beer.

It's an apartment building. People move in and out all the time. WYW's happens to be fairly large. It's impossible to know everyone in it as well as everyone's guests. Also, the guy made a point of greeting her as "neighbor." Let's not try to blame the victims here.Babies aren't meat! They're not even people!
-
That's so awful. The cops deserve a pat on the back for catching this guy so quickly.Take the u out of neighbour.
-
I am so sorry she went through that and I'm glad he is caught. There is also a survivor's support group at Beth Israel to check out.

As for being raped in prison- I hope so, but this guy was so freakin' huge, I imagine HE does all the raping. As for him being an animal, let's not give animals a bad name. This monster is a piece of shit. As for the people in and out- my building has 72 units, from 1-4 bedrooms. A shit ton of people live here- and I've been in this building for over 10 years- so while I do know many, I do not know all. How big is your building, Raw? Live in a tiny brownstone where you know everyone? Must be nice. FYI- I make it my business to talk to the people in and around my building. I want to know who the fuck you are if I've never seen you before. Friend or foe? When the cops found out I had an interaction with the monster, I was able to give them info about him they didn't know at that point- so me "talking to the stranger" may have helped catch him. Now, do I just walk up to people and start talking to them? No. But this douchebag started talking to ME first- what, I'm going to ignore him, be a bitch and further fuel his already sick sense of violence towards women??? Think about it."...you can choose the rain....but I choose the sun..." - N. Costa

Oh, and yes- HUGE round of applause for the cops and detectives that captured that freak. By gunpoint. In a Law and Order worthy fashion. =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>"...you can choose the rain....but I choose the sun..." - N. Costa

This is very good news. Cameras would be good, as would a better front door system (I also live in the building). All this makes the constantly barking dogs in the building behind us seem very, very trivial. -
I'm glad they caught this sicko. Yes, applause for the police officers who caught this guy. Sorry that it happened in your building WUW.
-
Jesus, that poor woman. That sick bastard deserves way worse than he's going to get. This is one of the reasons I have dogs, especially big ones. Their looks alone will deter most people with ill intentions. My neighbors are glad that they bark when someone's in the hallway since we're on the top floor. Maybe this jerk will get ass raped in prison by someone larger than him, one can only hope.Go do something useful.
