Just wanted to know about anyone's experience with buying a turkey at Jive Turkey for Thanksgiving. I went in to inquire and they recommended buying it ahead of time and having it shipped. I kind of like the idea of getting a turkey the day of Thanksgiving. I saw the line outside last year, but was wondering how long it takes to actually get one on Thanksgiving day.

i know two people who, in the past few years, have had serious problems with jive turkey on thanksgiving. one received a turkey that appeared cooked but was raw inside, the other waited for hours before being told the turkey she had ordered just wasn't going to be ready that day. they gave her a free turkey saturday! maybe they've resolved these issues, but...

We had gotten one awhile ago, maybe 2004. It was really very good.....But, we went by Saturday to try to reserve one. The have complicated restrictions for ordering around Thanksgiving that boils down to: You either have to wait in a long line a day two before Thanksgiving or order it UPS. Either way seemed unappealing to us considering how expensive it is. We decided to pass on Jive Turkey and go with Fresh Direct

I ordered the full dinner from Fresh Direct two years ago and it was great. Easy to heat up - they gave you instructions on when to heat everything so everything was done at the same time. Nice!

There is another Jive Turkey option: Greene Grape Provisions on Fulton + S.Portland has reserved 150 Jive Turkeys that you can order from greenegrape.com and pick up (or have delivered) from the GGP store.

Good to know. I am pregnant and due next tuesday. If thanksgiving even happens for me this year outside of the hospital, I was thinking of going the Fresh Direct route. It looks tasty, and easy!

      Subject: Jive, Jive Turkey

I don't know of anyone that had a good experience with Jive Turkey. They do have complicated silly rules. I am amazed they are still in business. I tried to get a turkey 2 thanksgivings ago. I stood online two days before thanksgiving for quite some time. Once I got in I was told I could not get the turkey I wanted and had to take what was available. I avoid them like the plague.
