I used to take the G from Clinton-Washington and transfer at Hoyt to get to B'way-Nassau for work. I recently moved closer to the C at Lafayette, and, thinking it would be a boon for my morning commute to be on a line that went directly to the city, was excited to try it out. Much to my dismay, my commute is taking longer than it ever did on the G. C trains seem to come every 7-10 minutes, which is a long time to wait in the morning, and G trains seemed to come every 4-5 minutes. I find it takes 40 minutes door to door to get to work rather than the 20 it used to take, coming from further away. Any thoughts on the quickest way to get to downtown Manhattan from this G/C overlap area?
    2. I commute every day from the Clinton-Wash C stop to B'way Nassau. It takes me about 30 mins I think.

I don't know much about the C's regularity because I just take whichever comes first at Hoyt-Scher (A or C), I don't pay attention to which it is.

In general I am very happy with the G during rush hour. It comes pretty dern regularly.

Depending on what street you live on, in the mornings, it's actually quicker to take the B25/26/38/52 bus to Borough Hall and take the 4/5 train to Fulton St. The buses whiz down fulton street in the mornings. (Takes less than 10 minutes from my place at Adelphi/Dekalb) Evenings are quite treacherous however.

I took the bus down Dekalb one morning to Jay St. when the G wasn't functioning, and it took me SO LONG. I thought the street traffic was pretty bad. I guess it also depends on what time -- I was taking it at about 8:20 AM. Earlier than that, it's not as busy.

Im not sure exactly where you are at but isnt the Lafayette C a short walk to Atlantic Terminal? If so you can catch the 2, 3, 4, 5 and M train at Atlantic Ave which will take you right into Broadway & Nassau. Also you can catch the M train at DeKalb. You can catch the 2, 3, 4 and 5 at Nevins and Flatbush also. What I like about the Nevins St train station is that you can take the first train to pull in which will get you to BN

I am SO trying the bus idea. I live at Clinton/Washington C train stop and it takes me quite some time to get to Broadway Nassau which is where I switch to the 4/5. If I could take a bus straight to a 4/5 stop I think it would make my commute a bit shorter.

The one good thing about living on the C line is that the train isn't overly packed in the morning. Most mornings I actually get a seat at some point. (Much unlike the uptown 4/5 in Manhattan...ugh)

The great thing about the C is that, though it only comes every 10 minutes, it comes like clockwork. I used to ride the 7:30 train every morning and it was virtually always there within a couple minute range of that time. Thus, once you learn the schedule, all you have to do is time your walk to the train station and you never have to wait more than 5 minutes at most.

Yeah, escap, I did notice that. I think there's an 8:30 train, so I just have to make sure I get there then.

Stacey, Atlantic is too far of a walk for me for the mornings -- I live on South Portland near DeKalb. However, you did just remind me about the M! I could take that to Broad and be even closer to work. Thanks for that.

bifteck, start to time the trains. i've been doing it for 3 years and it is straight butter.

c stops on lafayette, then hoyt/scher, then york, then bway nassau is 4 stops. there's no way it should take you 40 minutes. the 4 stops takes about 11 minutes MAX. there's something wrong if it takes you 40 minutes door to door, esp if you live at south portland/dekalb.

What's wrong is that I keep missing the train when I get to the station. You're exactly right that I should just learn the train times and make sure I get to the stop on time.

Also, if you live on S Portland and Dekalb, then you can get the 2,3,4,5 at Nevins easily. I'm one block further and I walk to Nevins and back nearly every day. It takes about 7 minutes.

True. Wow, there are a ton of options open to me. I should try them all out to see what's the quickest.
