Hi everyone,
I'm a former Clinton Hill and Fort Greene resident myself, and currently work for Citizen Schools, a great non-profit that recruits community members to get involved with youth in their local public schools. We are currently recruiting volunteers for the fall semester and I'm hoping some of you maybe interested. All the info is below, and if you'd like to learn more, reach out to me at heatherday at citizenschools dot org.
Thanks!

Citizen Schools is a national education non-profit that partners with public middle schools in urban communities to extend the learning day and provide students with more time, guidance, and motivation to succeed in middle school and beyond. One of our most exciting program elements at Citizen Schools are our "apprenticeships."
Apprenticeships mobilize adult volunteers to participate in the educational process by sharing their expertise and passion, teaching hands-on, skill-building projects to small groups of middle school youth. Past volunteers include employees with Nike, AOL, Google, and top law and finance firms, as well as local architects, fashion designers, poets, photographers, and chefs.
We are now recruiting volunteers to teach apprenticeships in the fall semester (Sep through Dec). Volunteers commit to teaching one night a week, from 4:30-6:30pm, and are also provided with professional development training sessions. Each volunteer is supported by a Citizen Schools staff member who collaborates with the volunteer to develop and facilitate the classes. No prior teaching experience is necessary, just passion!
Below are apprenticeship topics we are interested in having this Fall:
Architecture; Blogging and Website Design; Book Publishing; Branding and Marketing; Business and Entrepreneurship; Community Gardening and Landscaping; Cooking and Food Sciences; Dance; Electrical or Solar Powered Engineering; Fashion Design; Filmmaking; Financial Planning; Fitness and Nutrition; Forensic Science; Interior Design; Journalism and Newspaper/Magazine design; Mural Design and Graffiti; Real Estate; Robotics; Songwriting or Music Production; Spoken Word Poetry; Sports and Statistical Analysis; Team Building through Sports; Veterinary Care or Animal Sciences; Video Game Design.
If any of these topics speak to you, or you have an additional talent or career path you would like to share with our youth, please contact us today!
