My husband and I have some items we were getting ready to haul off to the Salvation Army, but given the people who lost their apartments today in the fire that started beneath the Associated supermarket on 5th and 17th, we'd like to donate directly to the individuals in need. Does anyone have any ideas, short of posting a sign on the burned out building, on how we can give our items directly to those affected by this fire? Thanks!

Yeah, the Red Cross does not take in kind donations, only $... We are asking around today, including local churches.
Good idea on contacting our city council member, although the last time I tried that for something else I got no response.

not sure who it is up that way but brad lander was around shooting off his mouth during the tornado but it took myself and the neighbors to cut down the trees and get the crap hauled away so he is pretty well useless...
If anyone up that way who can prove they are from the fire or smoke damaged apartments, my wife and i have some clothes if you need them and if you need a meal we are happy to help and we have some old but good furniture we can give you PM us here
as to the red cross or other charaties they have awful high overheads and little goes to those who need it most

Same here, good amount of in great condition clothes, some of them still have the sticker on. Some of them were mine but mostly my wife's, I'll say 75% are female clothing.
And for everyone out there who does not believe on renters insurance, here is an example of how important is to protect the things you worked so hard to have.
