pedestrian fatality on 34th street?

      I was told by a friend that one of her neighbors (female) was recently killed by a driver on 34th street (b/w 4th and 5th -- where cars speed down to get to 4th ave). The account was kind of confusing, but she made reference to the driver being an off duty police officer, who was drunk at the time? Not sure how much of this is true, does anyone know anything about it?
