Dancing in my Neighborhood
Through dance, drawing, and writing students will develop dances inspired by their neighborhood. The program focuses on creating movement from language, art and the places that surround us. Based on the DOE NYC Dance Blueprint the goals of this program include: Students as, writers, creators, performers and evaluators.

Originally from New York, Erica Essner attended Bard College for Dance Composition and received her BA in Art & Social Change at New College in San Francisco with additional graduate studies in Dance/Performance at Mills College. Erica has completed the DEL program at 92nd street Y that is based on the DOE NYC Dance Blueprint. She has taught college and professional dance for the last 25 years. Her dance company, the Erica Essner Performance Co-Op has performed at Central Park SummerStage, Jacob’s Pillow, Joyce SoHo, the Rio de Janeiro Choreographic Center, Alaska DanceTheater and more.
