Great movie night on tap for tonight at LaunchPad, perfect for our Crown Heights setting:
First: short films from local filmmaker Daniel Cowen, including the premiere screening of his short piece "Body Magic" and his take on the short story "The Angel Levine" ...AND a sneak peek at a brand new documentary about dumpster diving at the Trader Joe's in downtown Brooklyn.
Followed by THE ANGEL LEVINE (1970, 105min), the story of a black Jewish angel named Alexander Levine (Harry Belafonte) who descends to Earth to save the health, the wife, and the business of a troubled tailor in NYC (Zero Mostel, The Producers, 1968). Directed by Jan Kandar from a short story by Bernard Malamud and a script by Bill Gunn (Ganja & Hess). A weird, whimsical, dated, blaxploitation-inspired message movie... wonderfully corny stuff.
Doors at 7:30, Show at 8. LaunchPad is at 721 Franklin Ave btw Park and Sterling Pl. 2/3/4/5 to Franklin.
Free/popcorn provided/BYOB. Beautiful night, come through!
