      YOUNG ACTORS WORKSHOP

      Learn from experienced performers who love to teach children.

      Spring Session: Week of April 16 - Week of June 18 (9 weeks): $225, except as noted.

      *Ages 8-10:
      THE PLAY’S THE THING: Games & Improv, Scenes
      Mondays, April 16-June 18, 4:15-5:45 p.m. (no class May 28)
      Tuesdays, April 17-June 19, 4:30-6:00 p.m. ($250)

      This class builds ensemble through games and improvisations, monologues and scene work, culminating in short plays that are created collaboratively.

      *Ages 11-14:
      THE YOUNG ACTORS WORKOUT: Scenes, Improv, Games, Short Plays
      Mondays, April 16-June 18 5:45-7:15 p.m. (no class May 28)
      Fridays, April 20-June 22, 4:30-6:00 p.m., 
(no class May 25)
      Saturdays, April 14-June 16, 10:45-12:15 a.m. (no class May 26)
      (Friday class at Midwood Martial Arts & Family Fitness Center,

      Actors do improvised scenes, fun games and exercises, building ensemble skills. They work on age-appropriate scenes and monologues. In the spring, they begin work on a play.

      *Ages 14-18
      TEEN ACTORS WORKOUT
      Tuesdays, April 17-June 19, 6-7:30 p.m. ($250)

      Through monologue and scene work, and sophisticated improvs and games, young actors become acquainted with the actor’s toolbox. The range of playwrights is eclectic: Oscar Wilde, Shakespeare, Neil Simon, Tracy Letts, and others.

      *SPECIAL RESIDENCY: Thursdays at the Brooklyn Lyceum!
      I’m teaching “The Play’s The Thing” and the “Young Actors Workout” on Thursday afternoons in April at the Brooklyn Lyceum. This program is through the wonderful Brave New World Repertory Theater Company. To register: http://bravenewworldrep.org/studio

      *Private Coaching By Appointment

      For students preparing a last minute audition or rehearsing a role in a play, or for students who simply wish to deepen their skills, one on one coaching is very helpful. Contact me for rates and information.

      *Acting Classes for Adults

      Are you interested in learning what I teach but find yourself older than the age ranges specified? Let me know! I teach adults as well.

      Discount: See our website for information on discounts to students who register for the year-long course of study. Also: scholarships are available for students in need who have a passion for acting and theater.

      Young Actors Workshop classes are located in the heart of Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill. We hold classes in the studios at Christ Church (corner of Clinton and Kane Streets). The Church is a center for community activities, housing the Linden Tree Pre-School, Cobble Hill Ballet and other organizations. It’s a five minute walk from the F and G Bergen Street stop and ten minutes from the 2,3, 4, 5 and R trains at Borough Hall.

      Ezra Barnes, Director

      Ezra Barnes is a teacher, actor, and director. A Shakespearean expert, he founded Connecticut’s Shakespeare on the Sound, considered one of the premier outdoor classical theaters in the area, and served as its Artistic Director for 14 years. He has performed Off-Broadway with the Mint and Pearl Theater Companies, with numerous regional theaters, is a member of Brooklyn’s own Brave New World Rep, and has been featured on Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, Bored to Death, As the World Turns, and in the feature films Joshua and Once More With Feeling. A longtime Brooklyn resident and parent, Ezra has taught theater for young people at Saint Ann’s School, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Poly Prep, and Piper Theatre.
