Not sure how I feel about this, but a 7-11 is coming to 5th avenue between 13th and 14th street.

Looks like it replaced a 99 cent store. I love 99 cent stores!

But a blueberry squishy might make me feel better about it all.

The main reason I applaud this news is that the ATMs in 7-11 are affiliated with Citibank so I will FINALLY have a source of ATMfee-less cash near my home!!

7/11? Not exactly Loathsome, but rather incongruous.

      What's next? Stewart's Shops?

YES!!!! The atm fees have been killing me. I'm sick of going to Rite Aid and buying something to get cash back.

That is funny!!! I can relate -- that's the only reason I shop at Key Food.

But I HATE Citibank! Shitibank is always hitting me with hidden fees. On top of that, a homeless dude lives in Citibank on President Street and 7th Avenue. For all that Citibank charges me, you'd think they'd have enough money to keep this homeless guy from asking me for money on their property. Frankly, the "Keep the Homeless Guy Away" fee is one I'd gladly pay. (Yeah, yeah, I know -- half of you reading this LOVE the homeless guy. Well, invite him to live in your home then, because I don't like sharing my ATM booth with him).

If this new 7/11 were really great, it would have an orange ING Direct ATM machine.

Knock on wood--I've been lucky enough not to discover any weird fees coming out of my citi account. The only one is that damn $1.50 for every time I use a non citibank atm. And believe me, I keep track of how many times I went to another atm every month and make sure they didn't overcharge me at the end of the month!!

Now with the 7-11 I can stay out and drink longer!!! Notice how its perfectly positioned between Buttermilk and Commonwealth?

Slurpee/vodka is a fun summer drink. Rivals Sisco for a headache, though.

i did just notice this....got charged 3 bucks at the new chase on 5th the other evening.

i will never, ever go to a chase atm ever again if i can help it.

all these bank branches opening everywhere, but what i could actually use is a commerce up on 7th or flatbush near to me. for now, i'll just walk it, since i'd prefer not to have another storefront ruined with a bank.

When I walked by last week, 7-11 had an "interested in franchising this location?" sign in the window. I wonder how long it will take someone to commit?

thats crazy-- its actually cheaper to go to the skeevy bodega atm's?!!

I really need a Bank of America by me-- at least a free standing ATM or something-- I have to go all the way downtown or to take the bus or train to Kingston Ave to get to an ATM... kind of makes me want to just switch to Chase out of convenience.

Switch to Chase. In Manhattan, there are more Chase banks than there are Starbucks, plus the Chase ATM's in the Rite Aids that are on the blocks that don't have Chase Banks on them.

I have no idea why they are doing this. It's pretty damned stupid. It might explain why they have to charge so much to non Chase bankers at their ATM's.
Ok, now I'm crazy. Another goal achieved.

Once again, this part of the slope is getting completely screwed by the generfication running ahead of the actual area. There are more corporate franchise businesses in this area than any other part of the slope. As I see it, the revitalization of the slope has caused corporations to speculate on the area, and pay higher-than-market rents to grab a piece of the pie. What a shame .. and where is the city trying to help new small businesses open? Thanks Mr. B.

A complete disregard for the neighborhood, fairness in economics, and the people of Brooklyn, as I see it.

And to the landlord of this building, as a landlord, from one landlord to another, a big shame on you for bringing the neighborhood down one more notch for a quick buck.

      Hear hear, I agree completely.

I admit I haven't been to many 7-11s but I'm having a hard time figuring out what's so great about them. My experience with them is limited to hitting them up during long road trips.
      Go do something useful.

At those little ones, I don't think so. I don't remember seeing that option last time I used one.

real estate agents & people who dont know better think the slope goes to the higher-number streets, but the slope ends at 9th street.. flatbush to 9th street, and south to 4th ave.

Funny - people who think they know exactly where Park Slope is usually say it ends at 5th Avenue (or sometimes 7th Avenue!) or that it is only the historic district.

The fact of the matter is.... Park Slope is a state of mind

It is wherever you want it to be.

      Lighten up.

You have to admit, years ago when I first moved to the Slope-anything above 9th or 10th Street was considered South Slope.

I've lived on 13th Street between 4th and 5th for two years and can assure Prezst that it is indeed Park Slope.

Can't say I'm happy about the 7-11 being around the corner. Those things belong in the midwest.

One I thing I find curious is when people use the words "up" and "above" to refer to the higher-numbered streets in the Slope. To me up is north. ("The Bronx is up and the Battery's down"...)

That's news to me, I have lived here on 14st pretty much my whole life and not until the past year or so have I started to hear people claiming that it's 'not' Park Slope. Asked my neighbor, been here 60yrs, about the 'South Slope' thing - she's never heard of it.

And to think, all these decades me and everyone else on the block thought we lived in Park Slope. Thanks to you newcomers for enlightening us!
