Any dog groomers that you've had good experiences with in the Slope area?

Need my two mutts' groomed. I've done it myself many times, with mixed results - what I need is for their hair to be cut and the undercoat removed or thinned - they shed like mad. I could (and sometimes do) brush them several times a day, and hair still keeps coming off them. IE) I could just spend the rest of my life endlessly brushing them....

Subject: Yes, I have, and I use it daily. It works, but....

It works, but I could furminate them all day! Seriously. Its insane. The dogs, at this point, need to have their hair trimmed. So, yes, they'll still shed like mad, but at least there will be less volume of hair on the floor, on my clothes, everywhere!

I've talked to their vet. (Dr. Tommy on 5th Ave) Its not due to their diet, exercise level (which is fine - I walk them at least 2x up in the park a day), heat/coolness in the apartment, stress, health, etc.... they just shed he said.

We have our Mini Schnauzer groomed by Rod, the groomer who works at Dr. Silverman's ,the vet on PPW. She is not an easy dog to groom and Rod does a great job. Dog looks beautiful! !

I second the recommendation for Rod at Prospect Park Vet. He knows what he's doing, knows how to groom more unusual breeds, and always has good advice.

      i quadrouply recommend Rod!!

      he is the absolute BEST!!

he graduated top in his grooming school (and also teaches grooming) so he REALLY knows what he's doing for every breed and beyond.

he is the kindest, most gentle groomer i have ever met and could not recommend him more. in fact my dog often gets stopped on the street because he looks so great!

      contact him at:

My son uses Rod for his Portie and loves the grooming and the dog loves the grommer, too.

I fifth the Rod recommendation, most heartily. But you should expect to be (gently) scolded if your dogs are super-matted.
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

How much is Rod? Zoka's never received a haircut... but we've always wondered what they would do to him if we brought him in.

i believe it depends on the dog and on the cut. one thing i do know is that he has DECREASED his prices for the economy... another reason why and how he is awesome.

Rod - I've tried others and always return to him - he's the best for sure
      But that's impossible.
