Today, while leaving the park at Bartel Pricthard Sq. I noticed someone bent over, that, had his face buried in a newspaper. My first thought was he's probably digesting the latest article on the hazards created by Stroller Moms,
I was wrong, he was just a drugger, who was nodding out.
He jumped up when he saw me , crumpled his paper under his arm, started looking around, noticed his shadow and promptly left for six more weeks of rehab.

      Ah, Brooklyn!

I moved out of God's Country 26 years ago and much of it still hasn't changed.

But folks here in Minnesota tell me this place has never been the same since I came here. {Ahem} I think they mean that as a compliment.

      PRODIGAL,

If you're looking for a flashback to the 70's and 80's in the slope, pick up Bobby's Book by Bobby Powers.
Powers, was a local heroin dealer that claims he made millions and went from Rags to Riches to Rikers.
It's written in a manner that combines the less then uplifting styles of Frank McCourt and Hubert Selby

Hamilton: Stop making fun of Marty Markowitz. After so many photo ops he needs a nap.

      Walkathon.

Thats funny, but I knew it wasn't Markowitz when I noticed his lips weren't moving.

I just checked - this is not the same Bobby Powers as the writer is 70 having grown up in the 1950s. The guy I meant would only be 60 but he had similar problems which he succeeded in overcoming.

Good to know these guys worked so hard to achieve their success.

And thanks for recommending the book.

      prodigalson,

Emily Davidson, the author, is the wife of Bruce Davidson and Her Bobby's Book is a follow up to, His photo book - Brooklyn Gang, Summer of 1959.
Both are very sad and neither have happy endings ,a reminder, you may have your moment in the sun, but the damage done to friends and relatives, will guarantee, tomorrow is gonna be a bitch.
When Brooklyn Gang came out it was $42.00 and I decided not to pay for something I was seeing on a daily basis, the book now sells for $1050.00 new and about $600.00 used.
Due to their content , I'm not sorry that I hadn't bought either
