i wish our esteemed mayor would come to bk and look at the snowed in cars on my street--which is an emergency and bus route--and understand they shouldn't be bringing back the regulations tomorrow, dammit.

Even though I own a car and I should agree with you, I actually think it's a good idea, as it will make a huge difference in reducing the snow on the streets.

ten bucks says they don't even come by with any sort of plow/dumptruck to get rid of said snow during that one-and-a-half-hour period. (and i, frankly, need a reason to get my car out of it's brick of ice, but if i have a heart attack or other health episode because of it i hope someone will hold bloomberg responsible.)

i'm kind of torn on this one. although it really sucks to drive around looking for shitty dug-out spots covered in ice, i kind of think that's the reason ASP should be reinstated. nobody is moving their cars, and the snow is going to take a long time to melt. if cars aren't moved, the giant piles of snow taking up spaces on the street won't go away until march.

i don't necessarily disagree, but if/when they don't come by to get rid of snow, how will this change anything? i'm going to chip out my car and move it to an ice-encrusted space across the street

Flame-throwing Sanitation tanks will instantly melt the snow. You just don't want to be on the wrong side when they come by.

they came yesterday and my neighbor and I got people to move their cars so at least it will make it easier to plow and"sweep" tomorrow. We'[re on St. Marks. before Nostrand.

Yep. Look at it this way, the more you and your neighbors drive over the snow mounds the more they will disintegrate.

Here in Williamsburg they actually did come through with plows and take care of the snow. I hope they do it again tomorrow with the other side because that one is much worse.

There should definitely be alternate side parking in effect now. we need to start cleaning up the streets. it's gross out there. people (including myself) need to start moving their cars.

how lazy do you have to be to have not shoveled out your car BY NOW? Even bit by bit? chip away at it folks. It's your responsibility.

We have had WEEKS of no ASP. My block is finally parkable again. No more filthy Jabba the hut shaped piles wasting dozens of spaces.

After living in the frozen north of upstate NY for five years I learned a valuable lesson of on street parking: shovel out your car at the first possible opportunity. The snow is lighter when it is freshly fallen and easier to move. If you get down to street level within a couple of hours of the end of the snow, you can move your car with ease, even after a freeze.

Another tip, don't complain about ASS parking. In the north country a snow emergency means that your car must be moved so that plowing can occur. Even side of the street cars must be moved the first evening of a snow emergency and plows move snow all the way to the curb. Odd side of the street gets plowed the second evening resulting in on-street parking with completely cleared streets by day three. Double parking was not permitted and cars not moved were towed and ticketed. People without driveways usually ended up putting their cars in garages or lots for a couple of days. (Used to leave mine in the company lot at work after an emergency). In comparison, ASS is a godsend.

Ass Parking happened and not a single sweeper came by. The trash wasn't picked up either, so now there are trash bags and litter falling over on to the parking spaces due to wind -I suppose. It's a total mess.

They came through Underhill today - plowed then salted. Garbage for today's pick up was still there this morning.

I can't believe people are whining about this. You've known this was going to happen eventually. You should have shoveled it out back when it first snowed instead of waiting until it melted and iced over a couple of cycles and it was going to be twice a hard to do.

If you can't handle the burden that comes with free street parking then don't own a car or put it in a lot or garage.

Can someone please explain why they are still not picking up the trash? Did they decide they're just done with trash pick up forever? What's impeding DSNY from working? They can't pick up trash that's sitting in snow? Why not? I'm assuming they won't pick up the trash until all the snow melts.

I'm starting to think maybe I should just toss all my garbage in the street. I've noticed that things in streets don't stay there. Someone comes by to move it sooner rather than later. But things left on the sidewalk can stay there for all eternity and the only thing that will happen is someone might blog about it.

Hmmm. If we all throw our garbage into the street and call it snow, maybe they'll plow it. But they'll probably just plow it into garbage drifts onto the sidewalk. Anyone else have any ideas?

rob, there is a difference between being annoyed and whining. we have a mayor who's never used a shovel and likely has no idea how to manage in nyc by himself, esp if he were in some way disabled. the shoveling i can deal with, the reasons we're shoveling, not so much. (alternately, i'd like to see mike bloomberg do the 4th ave/9th street train transfer, esp not with the extra flights of steps to cross over. )

if you're out of touch with your constituents it's hard to do what's right for them.

8th ave was plowed on Tuesday. NYC'ers have become so god damn whiny about everything these days it makes me sick. I dug out my car ASAP, I dragged my x-mas tree to the mulch center on 3rd street, I pick up after my dog every time.

I wish people take a little bit more responsibility instead of posting how Bloomy is sooooo "out of touch" with its constituents!

gotta agree about people whining too much. there are certainly cases where the city doesn't get it right. i'm not pretending that everything is perfect or that we couldn't improve. but we're not as hard-done-by as people would have you believe.

and i say this as a person who whines about dog poop. so i am guilty as well. but bloomberg has never taken a dump in a snow drift in my neighborhood. at least, not as far as i know. so this one is really on us.

      Regarding: calling people whiners

If you don't care about this topic, then don't post on it. Like mama said, "If you have nothing nice to say... keep yo trap shut"

That said, yes, I've been there on both sides -the whiner/complaint person and the person who thinks someone is whining. Let just to keep a positive decorum.

Here's a good guide to know when someone is whining or has a valid complaint.

If you agree with it, it's valid.
      If you don't, it's whining.
      If you're drunk, it's whining.
If you've just smoked a joint, it's valid.
If you haven't eaten lunch yet, it's whining.
If you're enjoying a cup of tea, it's valid.
If your girlfriend or boyfriend just dumped you, it's whining.
If you just got laid, it's a valid complaint.
